*** Any January 2016 Brides Out There? ***

NoMoore, 13 July, 2015 at 10:26 Posted on Planning 0 234

I'm not sure if a post has already been set up but couldn't find one of those of us getting married in January 2016!

I'm getting married on the 16th, so 6 months and 3 days! ? I'm in love with our venue, Balbirnie House... I want the day to be here already!

Anyone else out there?

Hello! Welcome to the January thread!

Yes it's coming around quickly... We are sorting out a few bits tomorrow then meeting some suppliers that we have booked when we go up to Scotland at the end of this month, then it's pretty much nearly all done!

Wow Lapland... I don't know how you are keeping it a secret! We are (kind of unfortunately) having a pretty big wedding, H2B family count is 47, and that's without my family and our friends!

I couldn't face the whole big do. In fairness I have been ill but I definately couldn't face the mass of opinions. It's been wonderful planning in secret. Well apart from you ladies and a few very close friends. We are getting the wedding we want but on a budget. Might tell everyone in September. It's becoming hard not to accidentally drop something out. Lol.

I'm sure you will enjoy your huge wedding. A few years ago I wanted the same.

Yes it's common knowledge now. We haven't had any drama more complete disinterest from my mum and brother. No questions, no comments on pictures, no comments or discussion from mum and not even a congratulations from brother. At least no interference. The only comments were negative at first now it's more silence.

so 6 January. Am I still first for January and 2016 or has someone booked earlier now?

Im just about done now. I think.

    How about you?

I'm a January bride too! 9th for me and I still have loads to do but it seems like the main things are done - just the little bits to tie it all together now. Less than three months! x

I'm 3 days before you. Getting excitingly close now. They have started building my ice chapel! Woo hoo.

I think I've got most things done. Few bits to sort and dress fittings etc. paperwork for Lapland legalities are now well in hand.

Hi Kerrie, welcome to the January thread! Getting closer, how exciting!

Jayne E, the ice chapel sounds fab, looking forward to seeing photos! Not sure what's worth, too much interfering and criticism or disinterest.

Had a big argument with a family member over his gf sitting at a different table (he is giving me away so was on the top table) and it's all getting ridiculous. We go up to Scotland tomorrow for the weekend, and hopefully we will have kilts and flowers done before we come home again. Then everything is done! Just a few little things like song choices for signing of the register, making the table plan, finishing off my suitcase for the cards to be put in.

It's 3 months tomorrow for me!

It's good once big things are done but small things I made a list and as fast as I cross stuff off I remember more to put on it!

Look forward to seeing kilts and flowers. Not long left for us now. I went to a wedding where the only people I knew were my current partner and the bride and groom. Partner was best man so I had to sit separate. Didn't bother me and I didn't expect anything different! Does the family member know any of the people his girlfriend will be sat with? If she is a bit of a scary cat can he introduce her to someone before hand. If not.... Suck it up girl it's only a meal and speeches for goodness sake.

    Hi Kerrie!

I know! It's basically my uncles girlfriend... and she was put with my cousins (who she has met a few times) but they both had a row about it and i ended up 'accidentally' getting a text saying he doesn't want to go to the wedding... which really upset me. Now I've calmed down, I'm happy for him to still give me away and do the speech but he can sit with his girlfriend next to my cousins and my dad and sister can be on the top table... families.... crazy things! That's on top of her having to bring their little dog and not putting him in a kennel so I've had that to deal with too. I just want to stamp my feet and say it's my day do what i want! (not that i actually think that, but everyone should just shut up and put up for the sake of the 2 hours for the meal)

    Hi Ladies!

NoMoore - my mum has a new husband and he has said to me under no circumstances should I feel like I have to place him on the top table. Bless him he is lovely. He is going to be on the top table as he is very important to both me and my mum. I have changed from a round table to a straight top table in order to keep my mum and her husband distant from my real father and also my step father who I grew up with will be sitting on the first table down if you know what I mean. I have a complicated family! I don't think anyone has a right to get upset about where people are sitting especially on the top table - you can only fit so many on there and those places are reserved for immediate family and bridal party first in my opinion! x

NoMoore just seen you next post - she's insisting on bringing her dog? Good lord I would put my foot down on that one! That's like someone insisting on bringing their children to an adult only wedding! I think you should definitely say it's my wedding get over it and find someone to look after your dog! x

I had a 2 hour conversation with her and said that I'm disappointed they couldn't just call us and talk to us... but the whole time she didn't actually acknowledge anything I was saying or even apologise. She said she was hurt by not being on the top table... By the end of it she just said 'fine sit me wherever'... but yes, the top table is for immediate family (even if she was on the top table, according to tradition she wouldn't even be sat next to my uncle)... so although my dad isn't giving me away (I didn't speak to him til I was 15) I think having him and my sister on the top table will mean a lot to them and also means I won't be outnumbered by H2B family.

It's certainly made my life easier. We have two friends who were on the holiday with us and that's it. I'm giving myself away and no one is attending the wedding. I played the cancer card and said it's a personal service just for us. End of.

Hahaha.. the poor dog. I think it's her issues not the dogs. We even asked in the initial show rounds about dogs. My MIL has tried to find somewhere up there suitable but she isn't having any of it... it's ridiculous, it's a dog! If my uncle wasn't giving me away, I'm pretty sure they will have declined their invite.

Don't blame you Jayne... I did consider giving myself away but then it meant a lot to ask my uncle - and now I feel like this whole fuss has ruined the whole thing. But, I'm sure on the day it won't matter!!

It will all fall into place on the day I'm sure. Just shut your ears and eyes to their drama. Sometimes I think the wedding guests are more weddingzillas than the bride!

OMG she needs to bring her DOG. I missed that bit. Are you kidding me? That's ridiculous! You must really want your uncle there because I wouldn't have someone insisting they needed to bring their dog to my wedding not to mention throwing a hissy fit about where they sit. (Mouth open - gobsmacked!)

The thing is, my uncle is one of two family members I thought would be at my wedding. The other being my aunt who sadly died in April... so I do really want him there. And the dog thing didn't bother me, until it became a big issue and then she kicked off about the table plan, and then she made a couple of comments about a couple of other things I've mentioned to her (Note to self, don't tell anyone anything no matter how trivial a thing it might be!)... so now I've lost patience.

I honestly don't think we have gone a week since planning a wedding without someone somewhere having their say about something... and I've had enough now!

I'm actually more chilled out about it all than I thought it would be, but my blood pressure hits the roof as soon as someone thinks they can have their say or moans about something. It's one day out of everyone's lives that me and H2B can be selfish with... and I don't think we are being selfish about anything really! Or asking much of anyone!

Why do they do it? So yes keep everything to yourself, shut eyes, shut ears. Ignore. Sometimes I think you just have to shut people down and say it's all sorted as I want it to be and I'm not changing things so don't want to discuss it.

    families eh?

January ladies! I have just realised that although it is 9 weeks tomorrow until I get married I essentially only have 6 weeks left to get a lot of stuff done! I'm taking out the two weeks of Christmas and New Year as I can't get things delivered really over that period and then I'm back to work for one week before getting married so I can't really trust that week for deliveries either in case they are late! At least I won't have much to worry about over Christmas... Hope your planning is going well xxx

It has come round quick hasn't it? I'm taking a break in spain at the moment. The only trouble is I won't be able to open my door when I get home for all the eBay stuff I've ordered while away!

Nothing for me after Xmas as we leave the UK 3 Jan and marry Lapland 6 Jan.

I don't think (hope) I have much left to do now. How about you?

I have my first fitting a week on Saturday!

My word. Your list looks long.

I have no reception just booked a table in a restaurant so that gave me a head start. I need a cream brolly for if it's snowing on route in the reindeer sleigh as it would send my curly hair all Shirley Temple. A couple of other bits. All of which will be ordered off ebay. Them I'm sorted.

Apart from a year post chemo, hair grown nicely but it's started falling out a lot last few days. Just what I don't need. At least I still have my wig if things all go pear shaped.

Wow Kerrie, what date are you again? That is a long list! I'm sure you will get it all sorted though!

I had my fitting on Saturday, I could do with losing a couple of pounds but it fitted perfectly and needs no alterations which is good!

My to-do list goes something like:

Chase rsvps at the end of November

Get kilt measurements and choose tartan

    Put together photo list

Make some sort of background for photo booth - waiting for prices from a balloon company

    Hair trial

    Order thank you flowers

    Get bridesmaid dresses altered

Finish painting suitcase for cards to be put in

    Make table plan

    find a guestbook

    Order kids activity packs

Find a basket for fleece blankets

    Order place names

Put playlist together on ipod for ceremony music

    Make personalised hangers

I'm sure there will be bits I've forgotten!

I've got my 'main' hen do this weekend.. unfortunately a lot of people couldn't make it so I had a night out in September with them all but I'm sure this weekend will be great... roll on 12 on Friday lunchtime when it begins!

I had a message yesterday from OH's second cousin yesterday to 'sound us out' about her brothers girlfriend coming to the wedding. Firstly, I'm annoyed that he didn't speak to us himself, and secondly she wasn't around when we were sorting out room allocations a couple of months ago so am I being unreasonable in thinking that she can be invited to the evening but not the day???
