I used it religiously in the first four months or so of last year and then just dropped off. Ever since then I've had periods of going back to it for a few days and then giving up again. I did start an 'add me on MFP' thread in the Weight Loss forum during one of my brief resurgences, so there are probably plenty of usernames in there now (none of which I actually added!)

I've just started using it again and linked it to mapmywalk so I can attempt to get some of this weight off! I had lost 12lb before the wedding and only put 2lb back on so quite pleased with myself!! There's a few of us now. Feel free to add me - bekkijane251 x

Thanks! I will ? I used it religiously the year I got married and lost a lot of weight. I'm still pretty fit, but since we split, it's crept back on.

ID, I'll pop over and have a look.

I've started using it in a bid to lose weight.

Whether it'll work or not I'm not sure but it's been a real eye opener as to how quickly the calories can add up.

Anyone struggling to add people as friends. This is how you do it online - not sure how you do it on a phone.

Click Community on the top tab bar (next to Apps). Click find members then put the person's username into the end search box. Their profile will come up with a button that says 'add as friend'. There might be other ways but that's how I do it!

I'm also back on it since my wedding and Christmas. I've put a few kgs on and hoping to try and get below 60kg. Currently on day 3 too. Husband keeps complaining about the low calorie dinners despite the fact he is getting a triple sized portion and dessert after!

Yep, I'm back on it. Day 8 today (I think, forgot my phone today so can't check). Haven't been too good at keeping under my calorie goal yet, but at least it's highlighting for me where I'm going wrong, and lets me know how much exercise I have to do to work off the excess. I'm lcbrighteyes.

    I'm confused!!!!!

Obviously you get a set target food wise and a exercise target but when you add exercise, your 'allowed' calories increases..I thought the whole point was to create a calorie deficit? According to MFP, I'm under eating as I'm not eating back the calories burned through exercise..should I be eating these burned calories again? HELP!!!

If you go on to the community site of MFP you can see that this is a really contentious point. MFP works out your calorie deficit based on the amount per week you want to lose and your normal lifestyle you have entered EXCLUDING exercise. Therefore, when you do exercise it adds the calories from exercise onto your total for the day. Your total for the week should still be a sufficient deficit to lose what you want to lose.

There are many members who say that your minimum net calorie intake should be 1200, which means you always eat back your exercise calories. That you maximum deficit should be 1000 calories per week. Others say that you shouldn't include exercise if you want to lose more weight. That is why you will see some members add exercise but then the calories burnt is 1 calorie. This enables them to log their exercise for their own records but doesn't impact on their calorie intake for the day.

Personally, when dieting normally I eat back some but not all of my calories earned through exercise. I'm not training to run a marathon so generally the few hundred calories I earn at the gym don't push me into a huge calorie deficit. If I do a long bike ride on a Sunday I can burn 800 calories so I do tend to eat some of those back. I think you need to leave some room for error both in the amount of exercise calories earned and food eaten. Plus, for my age etc the only way I can get a decent calorie deficit and still eat 1200 per day was to do some exercise.

It is a personal preference. Maybe eat some back and see how your weight loss is affected. If you don't lose your weekly target loss start cutting them back.

Women should have between **** calories per day, MFP reduces this (mine is 1300).

If you do no exercise, you can only have 1300calories. If you do exercise and 'earn' more calories, you can have more.

If you dont eat enough for the exercise you are doing, you fudge up your metabolism.

MFP allows me to have 1200 calories a day. The way I see it is if I don't do one bit of exercise I will still loose weight just by eating less. If I exercise it means I'm allowed to eat more and still loose weight so I eat back my calories. I once lost 2 stone without doing any exercise, yes it's incredibly lazy but diet is 90% of it.

If you use your exercise calories, you can eat more and still lose the weight you wanted to lose per week. I set mine up for 1,5lb so if I don't use my exercise calories, I will probably lose more than that. It gives you a more realistic goal that way. If you would rather have the exercise to lose extra weight, then don't input it and it wont matter x

I used this site to work out my TDEE, then I subtracted 10% from there to get my allowance which will help me lose weight. I don't log my exercise on there so I don't eat back the calories. Working for me so far, I've only got a few pounds to go and then I'm planning on set back to maintenance so I can concentrate on building muscle Smiley smile

I have been tempted to use this. I am good at exercise but l am terrible for being naughty with food. I do quite a physical job and walk lots so it would be interesting to see how many calories l burn there

This article about eating exercise calories is interesting.

    http://blog.myfitnesspal.com/ask-the-dietitian-should-i-eat-back-my-exercise-calories/?utm_source=mfp&utm_medium=Facebook

Basically what I do - I don't get hung up on eating back ALL of the calories, it's nice to have earned a little more of a calorie bumper though. Read at the bottom about calorie defecit though. If you dont eat some of those calories, you're not aiding recovery of muscles etc.

I've been using MFP for 3 weeks and I've lost 4lbs. I've set my calorie allowance to lose 1lb a week so I'm doing well so far! I tend to eat back my exercise calories (depending on how much exercise I've done), sometimes i'll use it to have treats so I don't go mad. I'd rather lose weight slowly and steadily than be really strict with my diet and lose motivation.
