Any NON Bling brides out there?

Charliebob, 27 August, 2014 at 18:10 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hi, sounds a bit silly but are there any brides out there not having an ounce of bling on them on the big day?

If my mum and nan could they would dip me in glitter and cover me in sequins but I am not a girly girl in the slightest.

I have opted for a plain ivory pleated satin maggie sottero gown - madison style.

A plain ivory tulle mid length veil by Rainbow Club

and vory plain mid heel satin shoes by Rainbow Club

And some Tiffany and Co plain ball stud earrings

I keep getting told I need a tiara, or a sparkly sash or sequin shoes, and I just don't feel like it's me. What do you guys think? Should I add an extra something.

What are you wearing on your wedding day accessory wise?

Hmm sort of, my dress is plain but I have a baby blue petticoat under it. Jewellery wise I have a vintage pearl necklace and some Swarovski studs. I do have a 'blingy' side tiara but it's not majorly in your face.

stick to what you feel comfortable with! Does your gut say you need something else? Or is it everybody saying it?

Plain can be beautiful, you dont need glitter, diamante and sequins but if your looking to appease family without effecting your outfit what about adding a broach to your bouquet?

    Me...

My dress is fishtail without a single bit of sparkle on it. No tiara, plain veil and the only jewellery I'll be wearing is my engagement ring. I may get my ears pierced again so I can wear some small Tiffany diamond studs to match my ring, but that's it. Xx

I'll be pretty sparkly, but I don't think you need to be! Go with what you want to look like, don't worry about everyone else's pre-conceptions

It doesn't matter what anyone else is doing or wearing, it's what you want that matters. If you don't want any sparkle then don't have any. It is your choice 100%. simple as.

Sometimes less is more and if it's not your style then I say stick to what you like.

I was a non bling bride (although my shoes were a secret sparkle but were completely hidden) I managed to find a non sparkly hairband, which I loved and a simple bracelet to match. I did not suit the jewel look, it just was not me. So don't panic as there are non sparkly options out there.

I had some pearls on my dress to weight it and make it hang nicely. Then on the day I forgot to take off the lace coat and the dress itself was never seen. I wore no jewellery except my ER/WR, and had a hairband of rosebuds made by my daughter out of loom bands. I never felt more beautiful or more myself. Wear what makes you happy and comfortable: it's a long day with everyone looking at you to feel anything other than exactly how you want to.

I wore a lace fishtail dress, had my hair styled with no hair accessories (each to their own, but I HATE tiaras, wore pearl necklace and earrings (which had tiny crystals just above the pearl) and ivory lace peep toe heels. No significant sparkles.

Although, I did get changed into a more simple raw silk dress for the evening drinks and I wore some sparkly shoes with that.

Too much bling can look really tacky in my mind.

    I'm with you!

I am having a small amount of 'bling' (if any) in the form of the comb for my veil, but otherwise there is no glitter in sight. I think it all looks tacky (sorry ladies!) but I am an 'older' bride - I'll be two months away from 30 on the big day! *GULP* Some of the younger girls I talk to want nothing more than to look like a Disney princess. Smiley smile

I suppose it's all personal taste - some people love that whole Gypsy Brides meets Jordan meets Barbie look, some of us like it more simple and elegant. Smiley smile

I think you just have to do what YOU want, don't listen to anyone else. Last thing you want is to look in the mirror on your big day and realise that you've got something on you don't like and no time to change it!

I'm happy for my engagement ring to take centre-stage on the sparkly stakes really.

I'll be wearing nice jewellery which will probably involve an elegant diamond here and there but I'm not bothered about glitter, sequin or sparkly things.

I'm sparkling a bit more than i thught i would. my ress doesnt have sequins or glitter but it does have beading that catches the light and my veil has a shimmery lace edge. im trying to find a subtle tiara that wont break the bank. and im trying to get hold of an aunt to see if she kept my grandma's pearls (for my something old and borrowed). everyones style is different in the end. but the fact that you're asking makes me feel like you do want a little sparkle even if its just something tiny...

Lol! I'm not sure being nearly 30 makes you an 'older' bride? Maybe I'm delusional though haha!

But on topic, as everyone else has said - its entirely personal taste! Completely plain wouldnt suit me and I'd feel a uncomfortable, where as flowered hairpieces and dragonflies on dresses wouldnt suit somone else! Tiz what makes us all look lovely and unique and different brides!

If your family are super keen on the sparkles and you want to give them something, how about something tiny like a slightly sparkly bracelet or as someone else suggested a brooch on your bouquet.

Not in most areas, but I live in quite a small town in a rural area - most of my friends are already married with a couple of kids. I am literally THE LAST of my high school class to marry, and one of only 3 without kids. Average age around here seems to be 21/22 - with some girls I know being married before I even left college. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing, but I'm glad I waited for my hubby-to-be! Smiley smile

Me, I'm very non bling anyway.

I'm wearing my grandma's ruby coloured necklace, and a small alice band style ruby tiara. No other accessories except engagement ring and wedding ring. My dress has long sleeves so no point in bracelets. I'm only wearing the tiara and necklace to break up all the black!

Non-blingy bride here! had such a hard time dress shopping because i vetoed strapless, satin, & sparkles, which eliminated about 90% of the shop! no tiara, no sparkly belt, and only pearls for my jewellery.... my dress DOES have some very very minor sparkle (silver threads through the lace top, and every other button on the back is CZ) but it's just enough for it not to be TOO plain, but by no means blingy! go with what makes you happy and comfortable Smiley smile
