I have an interview and it’s been ages since my last one. I am trying to get prepared and remember the sort of questions I’ll be asked. So far I can only think of NSF and strengths/weakness, lolIts for an E grade but going up a band and it’s a community job I’ve been ward based since I qualified.

Do you have a copy of the job description to hand?

Have you received & had a look at the new NMC code of conduct?

Does your surgery 'focus' on any one aspect of health? (e.g diabetes, asthma, cardiac care?)

Do you have much management experience - I'd prepare examples of managing groups of pts & their care

(am an F grade, so if I can help let me know!)

    ? everyone

I am a paeds nurse, the ward it’s a mixed medical/surgical/oncology/haematology ward. The only management experience I have is running the ward on a day to day basis. I've updated my personal profile/statement and covered points in the job description. I also have to give an 10 min ‘talk’ on developments in community paediatric nursing?

Knowledge of how PCTs work for example providers and commisioners

How you see the difference in role between a band 5 and 6

    What motivates you?

Where do you see the role progressing over the next 5 years

Think of some common clinical situation you may come across and how would you react, in particular to being on your own and how do you feel about autonomy?

What skills can you transfer from secondary to primary care?

Dealing with agressive patients/relatives whilst working on your own?

Evidence of any changes you may facilitated?

    Evidence of pt management

Um I see if I can think of some more, have you got to do a presentation at all?

    Good luck

I'm not a nurse, but a PAM and we always ask about Clinical Governance too. Evidence based practise, audit, effectiveness, quality, key performance indicators, IR1's etc.

Time management, prioritising, supervision and how you relieve stress too.

I think that the best way to interview is to pretend that the nurse in front of you knows nothing about nursing. Too often people forget to say the most basic elements of their core skills, assuming that the interviewer knows that already. If you don't say it then the interviewer can't write it down, to prove that you know your stuff. Best of luck.

I'm a community F grade (in psychiatry though). Big questions when moving to the community involve autonomous working, lone worker policy and risk assessments.

Also important to know what the NSF specific to your area is and be knowledgable and interested in things such as Clinical Governance and research. Be able to talk about any work you've done mentoring or supporting students too.

See if you can get to visit the teambase briefly before the interview. You may find it helps you formulate relevent questions to ask the panel at the end of the interview. If you find yourself stuck on any question, let them know and ask if you can come back to it later. Honesty is better than waffling on about something you're not sure of.

Good luck with the interview. If you've prepared well, then don't forget to relax on the day!
