Any nurses or midwives about??

saspip, 11 September, 2012 at 19:25 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0

I've been doing quite a bit of work for the NMC and RCN in the past 6 months and I was interested to hear what you, as Registrants. think of your regulatory body? Do you think your subs are value for money? Do you feel the NMC provides you with support? Has anyone you know ever had any dealings with the fitness to practise department and what are your views on how it functions?

In recent years there has been a huge increase in the number of referrals to the NMC - do you have any opinions on why that is?

No particular reason for the questions, just interested to hear it from the Registrants' perspective.

Whatyou think of your regulatory body?

    I'm indifferent

Do you think your subs are value for money?

Not particularly £76 per annum is steep enough, when several years ago it was a third of this price for three years. The proposal to increase fees to over £100 is absurd when there are pay freezes nationally, there should also be a fee freeze. Although other professions have similar issues

Do you think the NMC provides you with support?

I have never accessed any support from the NMC in honesty, although there have been I have worked with that have accessed support from both NMC and RCN about various issues and they have not been much help in their opinion

Has anyone you know ever had any dealings with the fitness to practice department and what are your views on how it functions?

Thankfully I haven't and hope never to have to in my career. I have heard of someone who has had dealings, and I think it was dealt with fairly, protecting the public (the person was in the wrong!)

    Increased referrals to NMC

I think this is because of a wide range of reasons. I think mistakes are happening as workloads are increased and working conditions are poor, which is increasing the amount mistakes made. Saying that I also believe that some of the student nurses coming through to become qualified nurses are not always 'suitable' for the profession and therefore their ability to practice under the NMC code of professional conduct is not always adhered to
