Any October weddings?

hollypop, 11 April, 2013 at 11:49 Posted on Planning 0 6

Hi all, i'm holly, and have been engaged for 5 years (far too long i know lol) and am finally getting married on 5th october, 10 years and two days since we first started going out. Smiley smile is anyone else getting married around the same time as me? how are we getting on with the planning? i'm lost with it all, i'm not the girliest of girls and am finding dresses/shoes/make up a bit too much... we are trying to get everything done as cheaply as possibly as we have two children and not a huge income hope everyone is ok ?

    Hi!

I'm getting married 13th October Smiley smile Have managed to sort out most of the stuff I need to do like venue, dress, bridesmaids, cake, photographer, honeymoon, invites. I'm starting to feel overwhelmed as more and more people ask me questions about the wedding and how quickly it's going to come round!!

Hi, I'm getting married 4th October. I've sorted out the church, reception venue, shoes and my dress (all the important stuff!) and sent save the dates as its a Friday. Not long now but quite a lot to do - working on bridesmaids dresses and invitations next

    Hi Holly

I'm Mary and Im getting married in november this year. Im an older Bride (48) and this will be my second marriage but Alex's first. Although it is second time around for me Alex still wanted a 'proper wedding'. We are having a civil service but in a beautiful deconsecrated church. My best advice for you is to think carefully about what you want in all aspects of your wedding. Our budget is an issue like yours so we decided early on what we 'had to have ' and what we were happy to compromise on. I wanted a very simple dress didnt want to look 'like mutton dressed like lamb' I found it really difficult to find what I wanted so I bought a very simple dress which was roughly the shape and style (£70) I wanted and have found a lovely local lady who can alter it to what I want that will cost roughly £100 to alter. I would suggest as well that you think about practicalities ie weather make sure you have something warm to wear over yoiur dress, you might want to avoid a train as well if it is wet and muddy and very high heels -wear something pretty but comfortable. I have used the internet massively !! Things have generally been much cheaper and better than I have seen in shops and it has saved time as well.

We have a very tight time scale at the church so we are not spending a massive ammount of money on flowers for it and those flowers are being taken to the reception venue to be used again. As we are having a winter wedding we are looking having alot of foliage and berries in the arrangements as they look pretty and some are alot cheaper than flowers at that time of year.

With our reception we are having all our guests to the 'wedding Breakfeast' and no evening reception just a disco after the meal and speeches. We considered this at great length but thought that many of the people we would have invited just to the evening reception would have had to travel a long distance in November and might have considered not attending at the last minute. It wasnt going to cost much more (£10 per head) to have that number of people extra at the main reception. I felt It would be a waste of food and our money to have the evening reception but of course this will depend on your numbers and venue. We are hiring the mens suits and the company we are dealing with have branches all over the country. This means that our Best Man can go to his local store in Birmingham and be measured for his suit rather than us having to rush around after everyone at the last minute. This will save you time and stress.

Makeup and hair - Im not girly either so I found both locally with the proviso that they will both come to my home on the morning so I dont have to rush about !

I hope all this rambling helps - dont be bullied into something you dont want - make it your day and remember that you love each other and also that you need to live 'after the day' so dont break the bank!!

Make lists its great ticking things off - pay things off in manageable chunks most suppliers recognise how expensive it is to get married. Go to locals they are generally more accomodating ask about deals and say what you want !!!!! Dont Stress yourself out

    Hope this helps

    Mary

? I'm getting married 12th Ocotber! We've got the main things down - venue, my dress, photographer. I've chosen the bridesmaid dresses, but am waiting for my HTB's sister in Aus to try one on so I know what size to get her!! We sent out save the dates in January, so I'm just in the process of trying to choose the invitations as we want to get them out ASAP! We're getting married in a church, so the next thing to do is to plan what we want in the service. Also need to book lighting, chair covers, cars, suits, my accessories - so a bit to go yet!! Have managed to get a make up artist though - I'm using the same lady that did a friend's wedding last year and she was brilliant!

I'm an October bride too! It's so lovely to hear others have chosen October too. We're getting married on 26th October.

On the planning front, we're pretty much done - venue, registrar, photographer, accommodation and my dress are all sorted. The invites have been designed, and are due to go out sometime in early June.

We're doing it all on a budget too, so just being a bit ruthless about what we need, what we don't, and what we can tweak to make cheaper.

Hello Holly ?, welcome to Hitched.

I'll bump the October 2013 planning thread for you to join in.

I'm the most disorganised bride in the world, but I'm not getting married till 26th October so have got ages right?! (doesn't help not being particularly girly!)

    Hello Holly

I am getting married on 5th October Smiley smile

Been with oh for 5 years in Sept and we got engaged on 29th March last year (my birthday)

I am slowly getting things sorted. Oh is a different matter but not worrying yet. We are trying not to spend too much but my dress cost double what I had planned but it is beautiful to me.
