Any OMs like the fact that they are NOT planning?

knitting_vixen, 11 October, 2011 at 19:01 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 82

I remember many posts from OMs saying that they miss planning, but I love the fact it's over! I loved my wedding and I love married life (have never been happier), I got rather stressed planning (worrying whether people would enjoy themselves) and so feel like I back to my normal self.

I never found the planning at all stressful, but I don't miss it in the least. I think I've planned too many events through work and other things to let it get to me or to miss it when it was gone.. on to the next thing instead!

I am still planning, haha, perhaps not our wedding but other things for our future - I don't think i'll ever stop. But, I am loving the lack of preassure over the planning yes Smiley smile

Currently planning projects include compiling a book of weekend away treats for me and H when he gets back so we can make the most of any spare weekends. And I have a cruise to plan for too in May 2012 (just what we see when we get off at each port) and a short break in Barcelona plus OHs R&R, and our summer holiday of 2012, and a trip to NYC during Xmas 2012 (TTC depending)

I am also dreaming of my 30th birthday (despite only being 24) and also planning H's 21st birthday and his homecoming ?

I can't wait for it all to be over and not have all the planning to worry about! I will get my evenings and weekends back and have time and money for other projects.

I missed it at first and if I could do it all again, I would! Having said that, i think we got to a point where WP was all we used to talk about, every conversation came back to WP so it's nice to have conversations about other things.

I thought I would but I really dont. What with project baby making and doing little things to the house there is just no way I would want to do it again, oh and the fact that Christmas is slowly creeping up on us eeek!

A bit..im enjoying getting into a proper gym routine again, doing more cooking & baking from scratch....having a bit of £...

I do miss the wedding fairs though - days out, freebies, champagne, cake etc.....I really enjoyed them & wish I had went to more - only really started about 9 months before the wedding.

Our house is nearly finished...seriously looking forward to christmas....have booked a shopping wkend with my mum in Dec, have got concert tickets for our 6 month anniversary and Im going to crufts next year as a spectator with my granny type figure....

And we are hoping to book New York for October/ November next year then we'll start seriously thinking about babies.

I want it to be as big-a-deal as our wedding, but without the need to give up my holidays.

My friend recently spent, I would say around £15-20k on his 30th and it was, well, out of this world.

Crikey, really?! Don't wish it away, sounds like you have plenty to be planning for the time being. I know I wasn't thinking about my 30th at 24. I'd enjoy the moment personally, life is a funny thing and plenty can happen in 6 years.

Why your 30th though? In terms of important birthdays, IMO, it's way down the pecking order.

A marriage is for life, turning 30 is important for 10 years until you turn 40....

Sorry, but I can think of much better things to spend £20k on than a birthday...

The person in question won't ever be able to marry because of his sexual preferences and the way his family view that, and so we came to see that his 30th was how he would like his wedding, if it was a possibility. It was an amazing night!

Mooey I am sure once I reach 30, that 40 and then 50 will become more important - 40 especially so for H as he will be due to retire! However I place a big emphasis on most "milestone" birthdays and some that most wouldn't even think twice about incuding 22, being the end of my youth. Throughout my year of being 21 I set myself a challenge to do as many things as I could before I got "old" - I wrote it down in a diary and it makes for fab reading now!

I think your 30th feels like a big deal until it creeps up on you and you start wondering what all the fuss was about.

    I second that!

Don't miss wedding planning, as I'm now able to actually work, when I should be working!
H is due to retire from the RAF next Feb aged 44, so we're busy planning looking for a new job for him, and spending his gratuity / redundancy, so it means doing a lot to the house that we haven't been able to afford for the last 3 yrs or so.

I guess the same could be said for so many other things in life though, including our wedding bills? For me personally, I want to celebrate in style and if we have the money, I've a tendancy to spend it, i'll only turn 30 once, same as i'll only get married once (or at least, should).

He spent the money on allsorts, it was a masquerade ball and the invites were pocket folds with an accompanying matching script contraining the menu etc and each guests names were printed on the front of the invite - they were better than any wedding invite i've seen! He spent the rest literally as you would for a wedding too! He had it in a really beautiful manor house and provided the food and drinks, i'd say 100 people, potentially more - it was a huge room. He then served a buffet and later a "cake feast" which was laden with loads of cakes - this was the centrepiece:

There was music, live and DJ bases, Pink LED lights around the room - it was just awesome!

Just curious. Would you apply the same levels of expenditure to any children you may have, for say a 10th Birthday for instance?

I'm not sure Freb2reh TBH, as it's not really on our radar at the moment.

I am aware they aren't the same, thanks Trickers ?. However they do have simularities, both are a celebration of something precious (life & marriage) and at both I want to be surrounded by my loved ones, and eat cake, with a DJ and band, and champagne in hand.
