Any other somerset brides-to-be??

hairdresser_joy, 6 February, 2012 at 18:21 Posted on Planning 0 32

Hello all ?

This is'nt only for somerset brides, im just hoping to meet some more local brides -to -be. I dont really have alot of "girlfriends" to do the wedding planning with. Iv worked mostly with men in jobs. Anyway im getting married in August 2013 so its ages away but its giving us this year to clear some of my partners debt from a mad ex lol

Im doing alot of things for the wedding my self, like the save the date cards and the invites and the favors at the moment, but i see the list increasing as it will keep me busy while i wait till next year.

Im also doing slimming world which i started before i got engaged but now i have something to really focus on.

Anyone feel free to get in touch if ur local or not. ?

Ah yes bristol is'nt too far away from me.

Wow good for you planning your own blessing, makes it more personal to you and end of the day thats what its all about.

Im doing zumba on the kinect the poor people who live below me in the flat must think theres a elephant prancing around.

oh yes me to you bears are adorable.

Im getting married in a church, its only a small church next to my old first school which is my daughters current school and its where my dad is buried so its a very special to me.

Nope, we actually thought about having our blessing in Somerset but it was all sooo expensive!

Exactly, it was super stressful at first but I sat down Friday and just went hands to the keyboard and it looks beautiful! I've got 3 hard copies in wallets now, one for us, one for my aunty and a spare in case. We've even worked out all the music for our blessing but not for the registry office, weird is that?!

Hehe we have a ground floor flat, but our Jack Russell keeps looking at me running on the spot and going nowhere. I think he thinks I should be a few blocks away by now!

The first present my fiancé ever got me was an 18th birthday glass with me to you bears on. Since then, Me to You was our thing so the invitations had to be Me to You really. Even though my Mum keeps calling them the Forever Friends bears, totally different!

Aww that's sweet, I'm having a Registrry office wedding in Bristol City Centre then my blessing at a golf course in the village I grew up in which shall be beautiful! I've got a 12 hour hire on it for £180, bargain!

I am Wiltshire so that isn't too far! My family all live in Somerset. I am getting married 6th Oct at 2pm and I am very excited. I have had a horrible past year (lost my nephew and a unsettling time at work)and hoping this year is the start of something new. We are having autumn as our theme with the main colour as orange. I have 2 big bridesmaid and 2 2yr olds. MyOH dad is BM and his 2 brothers ushers. We are having a traditional church wedding with a bit different reception. Nothing major but having things like curry and fish and chips, Children's den next door, bouncy castle, photo booth (present from a very close uncle) etc

Venue is nothing special outside but inside is beautiful and has lovely views.

No indeed wiltshire is'nt too far. aww im sorry to hear about your horrible year. well your getting married this year so its going to an amazing time for you Smiley smile

iv had a few bad years and then i met my partner and he is truely amazing (which im sure most of us say about our other halfs) hes really put my trust back in people again.

im getting married 31th aug 2013 we are having satin red and crisp white as our colours and the little brides maids who will be 6 and 8 are having yellow flowers with red ribbon. (my daughter is one of them and the only input she wanted on the wedding was she wanted to carry yellow flowers. lol

orange is a lovely colour and with it being autumn the pictures will be gorgeous Smiley smile

we are also having a church wedding, altough our church there is a problem with the bells so i thought i would pick up some hand brass bells i see them at car boots and the give them to the children to ring as we come out the church. not quite sure it will work as well as it does in my head but should be fun lol

we still ar'nt sure where we are having our reception and evening do yet. possibly the village hall just over the road from the church although this may change.

loving the bouncy castle idea. we are having a kids area with a tv and dvd player which my sister is going to incharge of. theres also going to be colouring books, games and other things.

im just so eager to get things done, iv made my save the date cards but its way to early to send them out yet :/

    xx

I'm a Somerset bride to be too! We are getting married 26 May, in the Church in the village I grew up in. We are having a village hall reception in a nearby village and can't wait to put our stamp on it.

It's nice to see another Somerset bride to be!

    Hello!

I am also in Bristol but getting married in Oxfordshire! Doing all of the planning myself but using a lot of contacts to get things done. Got my invites designed and am hoping to get them sent out at the end of this month, got the honeymoon booked last week and finalised menu with caterers. Still got soooo much to do any no time to do it as just started a new job and I have to be up north for training for the next 3 weeks so trying to cajole OH into helping, starting to feel like a horrendous version of DTTB though so can't wait to come home and fix all his c*ck ups! Hehe!

All this and finally starting to try to lose weight (maybe a bit late!) well done to all you sensible people who are doing this in advance!

Bristol is great for getting stuff done though, got a fab lady doing alterations in Kingswood and shall be popping to Bridezilla in Keynsham soon for last accessories and bits.

MrsStobe13 - how exciting! I think our weekend is a popular one for weddings.

Hairdresser_joy - I'm getting married near Somerton. I currently live in Hampshire though but my parents still live there and so we go back most weekends to see family and sort out the wedding prep. Where abouts are you? We are using a catering company based in Bridgwater for our food - she is doing a 2 course sit down meal (our starter will be canapes which a family friend will be doing) and evening cheese buffet for us. Have you decided what sort of food you want?

The time is flying by, I can't beleive it is just over 3 months now. Still feel like I have loads to do!

Hope everyone elses wedding plans are coming along well. It is really good to know there are other Somerset brides out there! x

    Welcome!

Another Bristol bride here - getting married in Frome in 63 days! I'm from the states so I have about 50 people coming over - it's going to be a big family reunion... so excited!

It's been a bit hard doing the planning on my own - all my family and friends are across the pond but I have some great girlfriends at work - just not quite the same. You'll love hitched! I've actually only started using the forum regularly in the last month but wish I had been taking advantage of it from the beginning!

I can't believe how close it is! Had my hair and makeup trial yesterday. Makeup was great...Hair not so much. Think we're going to need a round two! Most things are sorted now... just a few more things to do and lots of the little details for the day.

I'm doing a kettlebell fitness class after letting things slip a bit at the holidays ? I'm really enjoying it - it's a great stress reliever - but I decided if I don't lose tons of weight I'm okay with that. I am pretty happy with my body (even though I'm at least a stone heavier than I should be!) and so is my OH and my dress fits great. I want to be healthier but I am who I am so I am not going to worry if I'm not the 'perfect' size on the day!

Good luck and don't be afraid to ask us ladies everything and anything!

I'm another Bristolian - getting married in June 2013 so still have quite a long way to go. Sending out save-the-dates this week, and then (I'm told) there's nothing to do for six months. I'll spend that time doing zumba and eating nothing but lettuce (yeah right) in an effort to lose about two stone.

I have been reasonably calm so far but I'm sure I will get a bit Bridezilla later on. I've been making OH watch Don't Tell The Bride & Bridezillas so I appear more rational when I'm throwing my hissy fits.

Crikey pokarekareana, I'm a May bride and even I'm not that far ahead! I've got health beserk though and (try) to work out every day. Like your OH, mine has had to endure hours of DTTB, Bridezillas, Four Weddings and anything else weddingy I can find! Mind you.. At the start of the idea he has more ideas and inspirations thn I did! Our venue is a golf course, soo we want it to feel quite elegant, relaxed and casual.

    Yay more locals hello allllllll

well had a brilliant wedding prep day Smiley smile been emailing our vicar and we now have our draft wedding service with the hymns choosen and in place and the readings. So that now means i can make a start on designing our order of service Smiley smile yay loving it.

Also have the hymns all typed up and put in a nice border so i can print them out and send with the invites (which im told i should'nt send till next year which is fine as i still have to make them all lol) that way the guests will have no reason not to be filling the church with song.

Also a member of my OH's family phoned us to say she would like to pay for our wedding cake so all we have to do is choose one.

really has been a good day

I'm back!! But briefly, cos I'm having a cuppa then off to paint our bathroom (whoever did it last time seems to have opted for a Bristol Rovers/Chelsea theme, eurgh!).

No real news here, H2B and I went and had a look at Berwick Lodge in Henbury on Saturday. Very nice building but the staff weren't great and there was a 50% hidden charge! The website says they hold civil ceremonies for £500, what they don't tell you is that it doesn't include the hire of the little building they are held in, which costs an additional £250! The guy that welcomed us offered us drinks, all dressed butler-like, he served the gentleman first. Isn't that poor entertaining?! I thought butlers were supposed to serve the lady first (maybe it's just me?). Finally, the woman who showed us around had to leave us pretty quickly. Considering we'd made an appointment to view the venue, they lost our business when we were abruptly told she had to leave to do something else!

Off of that one though, we're off to look at Blaise House Museum a week today. There's woodlands with rivers and bridges and acres of green grass, perfect for photos! It's where we used to hang out right at the start of our relationship, so it seemed like somewhere else we should investigate. The hire of the room is only about £350 for 2 hours as well, bargain!
