Any Pimms experts around ?

jelly baby, 8 July, 2009 at 17:33 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 12

We are having a traditional English tea party after my daughter's Christening and I had the fantastic (or so I thought) idea of making big jugs of Pimms. But just realised I have no idea how to make it.

What have you tried putting in it that has worked well or not so well.

Take a jug or glass and fill it with ice, mix one part Pimm’s No. 1 with 3 parts chilled lemonade, add some mint, cucumber, orange, apple and lemon.

You can also add strawberries which taste lovely

It's also nice mixed with ginger beer

Pretty much WMDS. You could just do lemonade and no ginger beer, and oranges would work instead of lemons, but it doesn't make that much difference really, it's all good!

I think a tea party sounds lovely after a Christening.

Fantastic everyone, thank you. I think we might have to have a taster session this weekend to make sure we get the recipe just right ;-)

I am a cheapskate and put 1 inch of Pimms in to 5 inches of lemonade and no-one's ever complained ?

Fruitwise, I bung in apple, orange, strawberry, cucumber, mint - whatever's around really [heathen icon]

I had jugs of Pimms for my graduation party at the weekend an I mixed it with lemonade, loads of ice, fresh mint leaves, strawberries and rasberries. You're sup[posed to add cusumber as well but I can't stand the stuff so didn't bother. It was a lovely drink and everyone liked it

I had Pimms at my wedding instead of champagne ?

Such a gorgeous summery drink, and everyone appreciated it as something different and refreshing.

Actually for the traditional English way of drinking it, you're not supposed to use mint, you're supposed to use borage. I bought some seeds so I could have borage ?

I noticed that Waitrose had some borage in the fresh herb section last week - perfect.

Only just seen the rest of these replies. With all these suggestions we definitely need to have our tasting party.

MrsB, as I have absolutely no clue what borage is and have a mint plant in the garden I think I'll stick with mint. Our traditional English tea isn't going to be traditional either as I've just found that H has asked the caterers to include an oriental & asian platter ....

I'm not to keen on Pimms being really sweet, so I would make it with 1 part Pimms, 2 parts leamonade and then 1 part sparkling water with mint, strawberries etc.....
