Any recommendations for make-up lessons?

misslaura, 28 August, 2012 at 08:57 Posted on Planning 0 7

Hello Hitchers!

Right so I have...not much time left until I get married..! And I decided a while back to do my own make-up but I am wondering now whether it is worth trying to squeeze in a make-up lesson and buy some nice make-up, rather than just relying on my "old usual look", as I think I probably should do something a bit different/special on the day ?. Or at least say I tried! So has anyone else done this and have any recommendations - e.g. any counters you went to that were particularly good? Ones that spring to mind to try are Laura Mercier, MAC, Benefit... and how much were they/were they free but did you feel pressured to buy?

Many thanks in advance!

Miss L

    Hi Miss L,

I would recommend having a lesson with an independent makeup artist. The reason being they will spend a couple of hours with you going through a makeup look and how to apply it along with tips on making it last etc. Also I've found no one makeup brand is good at all products. For example: I love MAC eyeshadowns, eyeliners but don't like their mascaras or foundations. I love Clinique foundations but not their eyeshadows etc. With a independent makeup artist you will get various brands on which to buy products from. There is no pressure to buy you as you choose what to buy from the shops afterwards.

If not Bobbi Brown and MAC do makeup lessons. MAC you have to pay £25 but this is then redeemable on their products.

I totally agree with Aimee (but not about the Clinique foundations as i can't stand them! Lol!).

A totally freelance makeup artist will have the best from each brand so you'll get a totally independant opinion. Also when i teach a lesson i do half a face and my client does the other under my tuition - not sure if the counters do this.

I had a couple at benefit and they where lovely and there was no pressure at all. She wrote me a list of all the things she done, talked me through it and it looked amazing, she even offered to do it on the day but we r getting married to far away.

An independent Make up artist sounds great but I woulldn't know where to start to find one and am a bit worried I don't have enough time/left it a bit late...do you need to book with e.g. Benefit?

    Thanks!

I'm booking in for a lesson with a mobile make up artist lady. I just googled in my local area and had a look at a number of websites, then went from there. If you are short on time you can ring around and ask if they can fit you in fast?
