Any second timers about?

FoundTheOne, 19 May, 2010 at 19:39 Posted on Planning 0 10

Hi everyone,

I'm relatively new here and have posted the odd comment or so but never really introduced myself. So here goes - I got engaged a few weeks ago. Both H2B and I are second timers and want a small intimate wedding this time as we have both had the big do with church etc. We are planning a civil ceremony and then a meal with family and a few close friends. Probably the first week in October - still deciding on the date....

I was just wondering if there were any other second timers here and if so what your plans are?

It is my second time the first time it was a church wedding we didnt have a reception just a meal with my dad step mum brother and sister plus my ex's parents then had a crappy evening do with a crappy disco in the village social centre, i did it for all the wrong reasons the first time and in my heart of hearts knew i didnt really want to but i had 2 children with him at the time and thought it was what was expected of me ( an immature way of looking at it really) i didnt care for any WP at all.

So in comparisson ive gone 'all out' I love H2B very much the planning (like many on here) has taken over my life!! and im soooooooooo excited!

We are getting married at a Hotel (Limpley Stoke) where we will have our reception and evening do we will have around 50 guests to the daytime ceremony/reception and 80-100 in the evening, we are having a 5 piece band.

Im having a fabby (i hope) hen weekend at the Ocean Hotel Bognor Regis

    I really cant wait!!

Go with what you want and have fun in the build up to and on your special day! x

I'm on number two too, I was married for 31years, thought I was going to grow old with him but it wasn't to be.

I have now met a lovely man and we are getting married in November, in Cuba. We have so far 23 guest coming out with us and when we get home we are having a reception party for around 100 family and friends. We are both really excited and looking forward to spending our twilight years together.

Hi - Im a second time rounder too but its first time for my H2B so we are having a medium sized civil ceremony in a hotel followed by a larger evening do.

This time round feels very relaxed and dont feel too stressed over the planning and arrangements - just taking time to enjoy things and make sure that the people we want at the wedding are either close family or friends who we want to share the day with. There seems no point in inviting people you never see from one year to the next just because you feel you should.

Anyway - just about five months to go and really looking forward to it!!!

Well its nice to see I'm not the only one that did it for the wrong reasons last time. It was all about the wedding not the man back then. Sad really when I look back. Anyways I am not stressed at all about this one and am really enjoying the planning - or lack of it at the moment :-) I also have the attitude that I am going to do things the way H2B and I want them - if anyone doesn't like that then they don't need to bother coming. Call me grumpy - I don't care. It's our day and our money and we are going to do exactly what we want. - Sorry for the rant just had a 'well you have to do x and you should invite y' email from my mum - gggrrrrrr

I was a 2nd time around gal too (H's 1st) and it really is far better to wait and make sure that you have definitely found THE ONE! I was too scared to speak up first time around - worried about failing, separating all the norm.

I wouldn't change a bit of what me and Mr T have it's fantastic and the 2nd wedding was far better than I could have ever imagined...I'm a lucky l'il Tahdah

Hiya, not been able to post all day.. login not working.. thought it was work checking up on me !!

2nd time for both H2B and me, I had the big white wedding 70 people and then 150 in the eve first time and H2B had registry office and reception in local pub.

We are having ceremony in small country house/hotel with 29 people with sit down but don't want to make it too formal and then open up for 100 or so in evening disco/buffet

seem to spending alot on a not so big wedding.. but we are ok we can afford it, 1st one was paid by my parents, this one we are paying ourselves.. and I've had no one butting in yet. Can't wait.. xx

good luck with everyone will be interesting to see how your wedding days work out

    xxx

    Hi!

I am a second timer too, and I am also amazed to read how many of the H2Bs are at their 1st time!

Same for me, i was married to my ex for 11 years but wasn't to be. I have now met my H2B who is just everything I dreamed of and more, we have been together for 2.5 years and getting married next year. It's 1st time for him.

The first time I was 22 and the whole wedding was organised by my ex-mother-in-law including sending me an invite to my own wedding! At the time I was too excited to care, but the more the years passed the more I started to realised how much I missed organising my own wedding, choosing colour schemes, even KNOWING anyone at the wedding. Just because most of my family and friends live abroad and couldn't make it, she invited all her elderly friends and my ex invited his four batchelor mates... reception was at ex-MIL's house too!

Now we are having 50 guests at the wedding breakfast, and about 75 in the evening, in the gorgeous setting of a stately home, the way we want it! :0) The bride will wear white (though no veil, just a nice tiara - which is my "something borrowed"), satin boots and a satin, fur-trimmed hooded cloak over the lovely dress, and we're having a Winter Wonderland theme, a cake with pine cones on it, and the colour scheme is white and Hunter Green.

I hear you, Claire. My H2B is involved in everything because I didn't want him to feel the way i felt my 1st time round, left out. We visited a photographer the other day and he said he was amazed my H2B even came! I asked why and he said because they rarely see the grooms until the actual wedding!
