Any spare vibes going?

Cosmopolitan, 11 March, 2009 at 16:08 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 10

I'm probably overreacting but my dad has been ill with what I can only describe as hiccups, its not but I can't think of how else to describe them. He literally can't get his words out. He had something similar at New Year and the GP gave him a spoonful of sugar (of all things!) and it went away. Anyway its back and hes lost about a stone in weight as he can't keep anything down. He has also been constipated and there has been blood in his stools. I'm hoping that this is just because of the constipation. Anyway because of the blood his GP told him to go to A&E yesterday which he did and they've kept him in to do tests. He was having a camera up there today to look at his bowel and I can't help but think of the C word. I'm sure it could be other things so could people please reassure me that I'm overreacting!

Sorry for being needy when there are other people going through so much worse but I worship my dad and I'm constantly afraid of him getting old and ill.

I need to get a grip don't I?!

Vibes are for dad by the way not me. I'm not that selfish and needy!

My dad was ill with hiccups when I was much younger and it was an ulcer iirc, possibly duodenal, though I'm a bit sketchy on the details. It was years before I discovered why the constant hiccups had led to a stay in hospital.

I hope your dad is OK.

Ginni thank you. Your post has really helped me to feel a lot better. I know I'm being dramatic but just knowing that there are other possible causes is helping me to feel better.

I don't think you're being needy - just worried and caring.

Hope they find what is wrong and its easily sorted.

Lots of good vibes for your Dad, I hope he is home and on the mend soon.

When I was little my Dad used to give me hiccup medicine, sugar dissolved in warm water in an eggcup. Worked everytime.
