We have been approved!!!!!!!! We are so overjoyed and still in shock. It was a surreal experience to say the least. I don't know how I got from the meeting room to the car........... so very much in a daze.

    The next step is that our social worker will start looking at children already in care/about to be brought into care and will look at our criteria in what we want as our potential child. We have said all along in the assessment that we want a child no older than 1 year and 11 months and the younger the better. This has been our stipulation throughout. This process could take a couple of months or could be very quick indeed.

    We have said that we will get Christmas and the New Year out of the way and see how we feel in the early part of 2014 and then could be all systems go. The baby's room is nearly finished and bedroom linens bought etc so everything "ready" in that sense.

    Once a match has been found, we then read all about our "potential" child. At this time, we do not see a photo of the child. We can take as long as we want reading the report, talking to child's social worker, child's doctor, etc etc, and, if we then decide this is a perfect match, we agree the match. I think at this time we will see a photo. We then have to go to "matching" panel. Matching panel read our assessment, child's reports, doctors reports, etc and then agree that it is a perfect match.

    Once the match has been agreed at panel, we will have introductions to our child and spend time with him/her each day. To start off, it will be half an hour (all with foster carer present), then the next day an hour visit, the following day be there for morning routine, next day lunchtime routine, the following day take our child out on our own for a short time but back to foster carer, etc etc. This all builds up and within 7-10 days, our child will be home with us.

    After I think 10 weeks, we apply to the Court for the adoption to be granted and our child will be legally ours ?

    It has been an emotional time (especially since losing dad) and the panel were lovely about that. We can finally see light at the end of a very dark tunnel. We are both so excited and still cannot believe it. Our families are absolutely overjoyed.
