Any tips for a DIY make up bride?

conwc002, 19 January, 2013 at 16:41 Posted on Planning 0 7

As the title says really! I'm going to have a go at doing my own make up just because the quotes I've been given are ridiculous! Plus I think I'm going to enjoy getting to know my skin and the creams a bit better! (Sorry of that sounds weird lol)

ive got pale skin dark hair and blue eyes! Any tips would be very much welcome :-) x

Hello. Im not very good with make up but how about going round the makeup stands in places like Debenhams to get the free make overs and get them to try stuff out on you. If you tell them your doing your own wedding make up they will probably give you testers and stuff. You can have a play about then. I know Mac and Bobby Brown have been good for me to test stuff. Good luck xx

When I got married the first time I just did my make up as I would for a normal evening out. This time round I'm struggling with what to do ☹️

Missing out last time I would love to be pampered and preened, never having had anyone do my face properly - but I apart from a bit of mascara and lippy for new year I can't remember the last time I actually wore make-up and hate the feeling of foundation clogging my skin lol.

Not really much help lol ?

Perhaps have a hunt for pictures of a look you like and see if you can practice it at home, or get a friend to have a go? Ask friends for products they like and give them a try to see what suits you/feels best?

I have blue eyes and blue eyeshadow really brings out the colour in my eyes. Not sure you will want that on your wedding day! Try Boots and Debenhams beauty counters, they seem to know how to make the most of your features and is reasonably priced

I can really recommend bare minerals make up, I had a makeover with them recently and ended up buying a load of make up and now doing my own for the wedding. Their eyeshadows are gorgeous.

My tip: take flash photos of yourself to check each look, people sometimes don't realise you have to go a bit heavier with make up for it to show up in the photos!

Depending on your style try a makeover with one of the counters in Debenhams/HouseOfFraser/Boots etc, try to go earlier on in the day as you need to see how your choice will hold up over the day. It might look lovely when its fresh but you don't want to find it only lasts nicely for a few hours. It will probably need to be a bit heavier than usual day makeup but if you advise them its for your wedding they should know how to do it properly. They should also be able to recommend a good powder/product for any mid-day touch-ups.

Like Marianne said, take photos with flash of the chosen look to make sure it can withstand the light as if not you could end up looking washed out/ill. Not good!!

I worked as a makeup artist for about 6 years on the counters, still freelance every now and again, and I really enjoy/ed doing this sort of thing. Love being able to play about with different looks and colours!

    Good luck!!!

If you go to your local MAC Cosmetics you will only pay £25 for a make-over and then get to collect £25 worth of cosmetics that you choose. It's pretty good deal. =)
