Lots of form filling. Nasty medical (well, not nasty, but .. actually, it was!) Biometrics (finger & eye prints). Stuff like that.

Oooh congratulations. . . . . don't you think it's weird that green cards aren't green? My first was pink, latest is cream. Have you noticed the holograms of Presidents around the edge?

Mrs M .. what was your 2nd word on the 2nd line? On my phone it shows different to on the computer, and I'm sure neither of those words would warrant a snigger, so guessing yours was alien?! When Mr P woke up this morning I said 'good morning Resident Alien' lol ? (he called me Resident Alien's wife .. but of course I'm a RA too!)

Taffie, Mr P arrived March 07, May 07 for me. It took 2 months to get our GC once it was submitted. That's why we're very shocked. We thought we had at least a year, if not 2 to get our heads around it all. Two months is no time at all, especially as we now need move house. All very surreal.

CB, we've not got the actual cards yet, but we did think they would be Green, yes! How odd that they are pink or cream! We got the official letter telling us saying the cards would be here in 2-3 weeks. Sooooo surreal!

LOL, we've heard the term so often now we're used to it, but like anything, when it's new it's odd!

When are you coming to breakfast with Mr & Mrs Alien then?! ?

Tomorrow would be just fine. Mr P will be at work, so I'll take you for breakfast and we'll have a good ol' gossip. I'll make sure it's a booth so you have room for Mr Bump ?

Zoe, sorry, didn't see your post before. Yes, something good! My life is full of good things .. this being one of the better ones! Although my Mum is sad ☹️ (but glad for us at the same time)

    Congratulations Peaches!

I've probably missed you but can I ask, did you submit your papers through your husband's company? Or have you applied independently? We have just had ours ok'd by the company and we were expecting it to be more like 12 months before we heard anymore. 2 Months?! ?

Congratulations 3 months wait is no time.

My OH was only saying last night how he quite fancies working in the US, but thats as far as the conversation went. Neither of us would have the first clue as to where to start!

Yes, all through the company. We went to see an Immigration Lawyer to weigh up our options and the only feasible way to get the GC was either to marry a US Citizen (we'd already picked out a couple!! ?) or to ask the company to sponsor us. We were nervous, very nervous of doing that as we'd heard that lots of people were packed off on the next ship home as soon as you say you want to become resident. We were very happy that they want Mr P badly enough to not do that, and that's why (we think) the GC came through so quickly .. the company pushed it through somehow. It also helps that we're on L1 and L2 visas (managerial) rather than the H1/2 etc. They take much longer (my friend who moved to LA in 1997 is still waiting for hers for example. She applied 5 or 6 years ago)

Still, we weren't expecting 2 months. That's just crazy. Our heads are spinning with it all (in a good way .. sorta!)

Congrats! That is really fast - mine took 12 months from an L1 visa, company sponsored (and that was pre-9/11. You must be special!

Welcome to going through the short immigration line whenever you re-enter the country from abroad!

Good grief that is fast! Congratulations!

We've been sitting on the forms for about a year now and finally got around to sorting it out a few months ago. We have our biometrics appointment this week, so hopefully ours will be just as quick!

We nearly missed our biometrics appointment ?

First off Mr P put it in his diary for the 24th March, when in fact it was the 18th. Good job I checked just before we went away for our anniversary! We had to cut our trip short by one day as we were due to come back on the 18th, but that wasn't a problem. And then, to make matters even worse, we couldn't find the place! The Sat Nav couldn't locate the address. It was a nightmare! We drove up and down this bloody road for an hour (we were early by an hour, thank GOD!), and then I plugged the address into the iPhone which saved the day. Stress?! After a relaxing weekend in a spa! Why don't they put numbers on the bloody roads?!!!

Anyway, it was the easiest part of the whole process. Fill in forms (remember to take your SSN with you as mine was in my phone which was in the car as they don't allow phones in the place - I haven't memorised mine yet) and then have your fingerprints done and a series of photos. Dull as dishwater!
