Any west midlands dj recommendations?

Purple Pixie, 21 March, 2011 at 13:13 Posted on Planning 0 4

Having the right music and atmosphere in the evening is really important to me but I'm really struggling to book a dj.

The venue have a preferred one, I've met him and he seems nice and professional, OH didn't think much to him though. His lighting rig is pretty good but nothing amazing.

I met another one at a wedding fayre who had an amazing lighting setup and could project writing and/or pictures on to the walls or dance floor. The chap seemed nice and really knew his stuff but it wouldn't be him dj-ing as he has a team of 4 djs.

But I've not actually seen/heard either of them doing their stuff. How are you supposed to tell how good they are?

Has anybody got any first hand recommendations for a dj in the Birmingham area?

?

    Hey Purple,

I'm glad to hear that you have decided to go with a DJ as entertainment for your wedding. As a DJ myself I know it can be 'frustrating' as you can not watch a DJ perform at someone elses wedding unless you're a guest.

There are some steps that I could advise you to do.

    1. There are three main professional DJ associations NADJ (National Association of DJ's), AMPdj (Alliance of Mobile & Party DJ's) and SEDA (South Eastern Discoteque Association), I would advise you to click http://nadj.org.uk/component/sobi2/?catid=270, this will take you to the NADJ directory of their current members who operate in the West Midlands.

    2. Most DJ's now a days take their camcorders and cameras out to weddings and shoot footage or take photos, the reason for this is as stated above unless you have been a guest at a previous wedding you can't really see how they perform. By browsing through their portfolios you should be able to get an idea of how they perform and present themselves.

I hope you get some first hand recommendations but if you do not I hope the steps above will guide you in picking the perfect DJ for your wedding!

Hope it all goes well and Good Luck!!

There is one organisation that does vet their DJs. In the last week the criteria has been tightened up so only the very top wedding DJ specialists are accepted. https://www.weddingdja.co.uk/ There's also some really good advice on there for planning your wedding and advice for booking your entertainment (not just DJs)

    Hope that helps

    Evening,

We used Midlands Pro Dj's they were fab! I can't recommened them enough. They were involved all night getting people up on the dance floor and even dancing with them

They were twins and complimented each other perfectly as they were swapping roles and helping us get the best out of the evening. We originally had a play list planned with them as hubby hates cheesy party music and said he didn't want it. We didn't take into account that actually everyone loves it so there was no problem with us asking them to switch to alternative tracks.

I highly recommend them. Their website is: https://www.midlandsprodj.com/

Saw your post and do reccommend http://www.flava-media.com. These guys use to play with Midland Pro but they branched out and really give you a show for your money.
