any year one teachers around?

Just wanted to ask what stage of oxford reading tree most year ones are on by the end of the year? I know that some schools have book bands, but my child's school do not band them, they work through the stages. My child is on stage 6. Are most beyond this stage by the end of year one, or is this average?

Just been trying to think back to when I had Y1. We didn't use ORT much but did have them as a choice for the children. I seem to think the average/ top average child in the class would have been able to manage the yellow books which started to talk about the magic key. Am pretty sure that's stage 6.

I have taught reception, year one and year two in the past and 'average' children tended to reach stage 6 (the orange ones?) by the end of year one/beginning of year two. Obvioulsy lots of exceptions to that but that was fairly typical.

I hated ORT when my son had them at nursery. Bloody Biff & Chip. He's reading the Storyworlds books at the moment, he's on stage 7 which google tells me is age 6-7 (so year 2?). If they're equivalent to ORT levels then level 6 sounds like year one.

BTW I'm not a teacher so probably talking rubbish.
