Anybody else worried H2B won't like their dress?

Helybel, 12 October, 2013 at 21:15 Posted on Planning 0 28

So sitting watching tv earlier, OH comments on a presenters dress saying he doesn't like it, dresses with no sleeve that aren't strappy look all wrong....hmm a bit like my dress then!! My mum starts saying well what's wrong with it and saying oh well men have no idea, those dresses are lovely. OH has now taken offence thinking she's trying to pull him apart. Little bit tense!! Anyway, now he's got the hump with my mum and I'm not sure he's gonna like my dress...cracking!

End of rant

My OH doesn't like lace ... my dress is lace! I'm sure he'll change his mind when he sees me! Or I hope so anyway.

I think we all worry our H2B won't like something - my dress has a bit of colour on it, which I am hoping my H2B won't mind (I love it but it appeared commonly in the thread about what other brides dislike!). I recently found out my H2B likes long hair (mine having been been shorter than shoulder length most of our relationship) - so have had to ask him what he thinks of vague styles as a result.

What you will probably find is that, for everyday styles, your H2B does not like that style, but as long as you feel comfortable and beautiful on the day, the dress details will be irrelevant to him as your happiness will shine through.

When H2B sees you, he'll forget all about the "dress style he didn't like"...

It's strange, that's the one thing I'm actually not worried about. I felt amazing in my dress and I know it'll knock his socks off!

I think this is probably pretty true. my oh generally isn't that keen on things that aren't my 'normal' style so doubt he'll love my dress (because unsurprisingly a full on lace, bodiced bridal gown isn't what I usually wear) and ive no doubt if we chose something beforehand he'd pick something totally different to my dress but I'm counting on him to be loved up enough to love what ever I wear on the day just because it's our wedding and cos he'll know I like it.

The point is, you will be wearing the dress, not the other way round, he will love the dress because the love of his life is looking stunning wearing it. ?

PS Men don't know what they want/like half the time anyway!

My H helped choose my dress, so I wasn't worried.

If you're that worried - show him.

In all honesty as long as I love my dress then I don't mind, same goes for his suit. As long as he is comfortable and feels confident in what he is wearing then I will love/like it too.

I showed my H2B my very 'nearly' dress (the dress that wasn't) and he hated it, thankfully I decided on a different dress. My actual dress is nothing like my 'nearly', so I have high hopes he'll love it ?

Myself and OH have very similar taste in clothes and decor etc so I'm hoping that he will love it and besides which, he is marrying me - not the dress ?

If it's any help, a few years ago we did a poll on OT whereby we asked our OH, in real time, to describe our wedding dresses. The concensus was he won't even remember what it looks like a couple of months after the wedding, so I really wouldn't sweat it. You'll look amazing; that's what he'll remember.

    Yep.

I worried that my H wouldn't like that mine was tea length - he didn't even notice it was until the drinks reception.

Ha! remember the thread, Kharv? It was immense. No-one's OH could remember much about the dresses. So funny!

I was watching DTTB with my H2B the other day, the bride had picked a princessy full skirt dress, not too dissimilar to mine in shape whilst her H2B picked a slim lacey number. My H2B then told me he hated big skirted dresses because they look like a gypsy bride dress. I bought my dress 2 weeks prior to this episode. Panic has now set in. I have 10 months till I get married......

My OH told me I looked beautiful on the day, then after the wedding on honeymoon when I asked him again, he said he preferred the dress he saw for me ( he saw one in a shop window he liked) .. I told him to s*d off! ? But it in the grand scheme of things I still love it and I know he loves the woman in it and overall he did like it really, just wanted to say " I picked her dress".

For all of you worried trust me he will love YOU in it!

I bought a lace tea length dress only for H2B to announce he didn't like tea-length dresses. Shorter dresses aren't "proper" wedding dresses as far as he's concerned. I threw my toys out of the pram and demanded money to purchase a new dress since he was going to hate mine so much. A week later I purchased my second dress which, once again was tea length. Ah well, I love it anyway Smiley smile

I always say to OH that I worry he won't like the dress but he always says he's sure he will,
I think once they see you in it..perfect fit, hair & make up all done with nice accessories etc they'll love it Smiley smile
My man hasn't a clue about fashion anyway so i'm sure he'd be one who couldn't describe it a few months after ?

I'm honestly not worried at all. My OH doesn't have opinions on such things as wedding dresses, he really doesn't have a clue. Anyway, he somehow loves me even in the morning when I wake up looking like a zombie fraggle so my pretty white dress will surely be a winner.

I think it'll be fine, it's just not a good time for him to be offering his fashion advice!

He'll like it I'm sure. Could do without a row brewing between him and my mother though while she tries to get him to say the right things about dress styles!

I always worry about this too!

However, he is marrying you and you have chosen that dress because you LOVE it!!

As long as you feel beautiful in it, I'm sure he and everyone else will think the same.

If he chose a suit you weren't keen on, would you want to marry him any less? No!

My H2B doesn't like veils but I am wearing a cathedral style one!! Because I love it!

Be comfortable, feel beautiful and he will think it too! Smiley smile x

Peter - you just made me laugh at my own post now that I've re-read it!

Just to clear up any confusion I did mean that he would choose clothes for me for presents that would be to my taste and vice versa, not that I have caught him borrowing my clothes or anything like that.

Did make me smile reading it back tho.

Not a 100% my OH would like my dress since it has colour in it, but other than that its rather traditional looking so that would appeal to him. But in all honesty i WAS worried and now i dont give a hoot. i like it, i'm wearing, he's NOT wearing it and i really don't think he'll be critiquing my style down the aisle.

I dont like morning suits and pin stripes but boy he looks good in them!

also from his glancing comments from when i've been watching don't tell the bride, he hasn't the foggiest about wedding dress styles or trends.

My H doesn't like strapless clothing. When I asked him to describe what he thought my dress would be like he said cap sleeves and totally not what I had chosen. He absolutely loved my dress and brings it up now saying just how amazing it was. Dont worry about it, he will love it on you.
