anybody got any ideas for headwear?

thefuturemrsclarke, 6 November, 2009 at 12:38 Posted on Planning 0 36

I want my hair up, and although i ordered a tiara im not sure if it really suits me or not. what can i have instead? my hair is very fine and doesnt keep things in easily. the tiara that i ordered was gold diamantees and im not sure if because its gold thats why it looks to much. but my engagement ring is yellow gold so if i was to go for silver that would look wierd wouldnt it?

Firstly, I don't think silver would look strange with your yellow gold ER.

I'm probably not the best person to answer this but I initially thought of a tiara then when I tried some on I wasn't sure and thought there were too princessy and traditional for me. I then went onto the idea of a comb and lastly onto a headband.

If your hair is quite fine then a sparkly headband might work for you.

I've gone for a flexible hairband that is being made for me - can't describe it but hopefully picking it up tomorrow and I'll try to post some pics.

Take a look at some of the HIBs websites for ideas but I know the best thing I did was actually go to a shop and try some on with my veil to get an idea of what I actually liked and didn't like.

    Good luck with your search!!!!

Ah I see. I have a yellow gold engagement ring too, but sometimes want to wear white gold/silver necklaces. My view is that so long as it's just the rings it doesn't matter - so it might be odd if you had white gold necklace/yellow gold earings but it works if just the rings are different - does this make sense?

I agree with this - I think as long as your tiara/hair piece, necklace, bracelet and whatever else are either all gold or all silver then it will be fine that your rings are yellow gold.

Agree about colours. There's really quite a lof things you could have, a side tiara is less princessy, it's really a hair band with an assymetric feature on one side, or you could have hair combs, clips, a hairvine or a fascinator. I design most of my work to order and would be happy to make you something to suit. You can see some examples of my work on

    Hello

I'd personally say that whatever your ear rings/necklace are should be the colour of your headwear. I'd not necessarily say that your ER has to match too. This is my personal feelings anyway.

Also if you take a look at my site, I have a few brides who have had combs & side tiara's. Everything is had made to order so if you like the look of something in gold, I can make it in silver for you & visa versa.

Also if you send me a picture of your dress I could design something specifically for you. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions.

Don't worry what colour your engagement ring is. It is more important that you have a head piece that compliments your dress and other accessories. The ring is a small part ( although an important sentiment!) Stay clear from combs if you have fine hair, you would be better with a headband and most designers can cover the band with a colour the same as your hair colour if you wish. We offer lots of free advice if you send us a picture of your dress.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi FMC,

I totally understand what you mean, I have a yellow gold e ring also and I didn't want silver jewellery and hair piece as i was worried it wouldn't go. I've made my own jewellery, it's freshwater pearls and swarovski crystals and just has a small gold clasp so very little metal but it still 'goes'.

I couldn't decide between a tiara, hairband etc so for my hair, but I eventually decided on some flowers and the lovely Sherrie at Aislebeyours (HIB on here) made me some flower hair pins with little pearls in the centre. I've not taken a pic of my actual ones, but this is the pic from sherries website

They are absolutely beautiful and have no metal so I didn't have the silver/gold issue.

I'll take a picture of my jewellery later and post for you so you can see what I mean. I felt much better about it only having gold metal xx

I have some more pics here, they can be made using clear nylon so that you don't have the metal issue as well:

or a comb with flowers to match your bouquet:

Hi there, there is absolutely no need for your ring to be the same colour as your jewellery, as others have said the jewellery needs to match the tiara and dress, gold is best with an ivory dress. Different styles of tiara suit different people and different hair styles. If you are looking at alternatives like pins or combs please feel free to take a look on the website.

What about some twist in diamante flowers , a lot of styles have pins or twists added at the back, as people spend a lot of time looking at the back of your head lol. https://www.3djewellery.co.uk/index_files/hair_diamonds.htm

I'm not sure if the hair jewels is something i'd go for, Your lacy Flower Pins are gorgeous, but how many is just enough before it becomes too much if that makes sense?? lol

Sherrie I really like your rose clips, do they come in different colours? And do you have different styles of flowers??x

I don't think you need to worry about the colour of your engagement ring. Its more important that your hair accessory co-ordinates with your dress and any other jewellery you plan to wear, as well as suiting your hairstyle of course.

I had a platinum ER and WR but my jewellery was gold plated and I'm a real matching freak usually! No one else will know or notice, honestly.

What will work best really depends on the style of and detail on your dress as well as how you are planning to wear your hair. If you have any photos or links that you could send me, I'd be happy to suggest some items for you, or design something bespoke.

Picking up on things you have mentioned, I can point out the follow items in my current range.

I have a band on my website called "Glamour Puss" which is very versatile and can be worn as a tiara or a hair band. Its beautiful with little pearls and crystals woven randomly on the flexible band so has the wow factor without the princess look. It can be made using a silver or gold coloured band and wire and as you can see from the photos there isn't too much metal showing.

"Natalie" is in a similar style to "Glamour Puss" but in pearls only. of course if all crystals would suit better, this can be made no problem. Again, gold or silver bands are avaiable.

You mentioned combs. Because you have fine hair, I would only suggest wearing a comb if you are going for an up do where it can also be pinned into place as I don't think it would hold in your hair well and would slip out, even with a plastic comb instead of metal.

The "Glamour Puss" and "Sparkler" combs are popular but Sparkler does tend to suit down hair styles better, although it could be placed on the side of the head further back if you had a up do (not sure how to explain that!)

Side tiaras such as "Lauren" are a possiblily and personally I think look fantastic with shorter hair or a bob. Something different could be designed along these lines, perhaps incorporating pearls or crystals (whatever best compliments your jewellery etc) or with spirals or straight wires.

Hair pins can be used in a up do or a half up half down do to add insterest at the back of the style. Some examples below.

As I said, it all really depends on your dress, jewellery and hair style and I have plenty more ideas so please do feel free to drop me an email for some more suggestions/ advice. ****@***********.**.**

    Hi,

Sorry to hear you're not 100% sure about your gold tiara.

I think a silver tiara/hair accessory will be fine with gold rings, so long as your jewellery is silver too. Perhaps go for silver earrings and/or necklace and either no bracelet or silver bracelet on the other wrist so not too close to your gold rings.

I have some gorgeous tiaras, headbands, hair combs and hair pins on my website below, most of which are currently in the sale. Feel free to take a little look for ideas or to see if there is something you like. One of my combs which is very popular is this one below

These tiaras are also beautiful and selling well at the moment:-

If you are still unsure about the silver I can order in a number of lovely hair accessories in gold. Just let me know if you would like me to email you some photos. You can either contact me through hitched or at ****@*********************.***

    Hope that helps a little!
