Sorry to hear this... there are some good guidelines on the Direct.gov site.

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/RedundancyAndLeavingYourJob/Redundancy/index.htm

Was he served notice or told that he was going into consultation?

How many of them were affected?

Sorry, I don't have any practical advice but I'm sure someone will come along soon who will be able to help.

Thanks Mrs C. Nope, he wasn't warned or told about any consultation. I think roughly between 10-20 of them. They were offered the option of going self employed but H would need to buy his own van and tools for jobs that aren't guaranteed to be on a regular basis xx don't know what to do, I know it's never good timing but I go for my 12 week scan tomorrow!x

If there are less than 20 affected then they can consult with you on an individual basis, if there are more than 20 they must perform a collective consultation.

Does his company have a HR department?

Either way I would get your OH to speak to ACAS.

Yes to an HR department, well one guy but he's rubbish. I've emailed my old company, she was such a good HR person. Thanks for all your advice/kind words all xx
