Anybody interested in helping James May build his lego house?

I just got this email back from the Production company organising James May's attempt to build a Lego house in case anybody is interested in getting involved:

Thank you for your interest in helping James May build his Lego house for his new BBC 2 series

James May’s Toy Stories

The first event will be held at:

Denbies Wine Estate, London Road , Dorking, Surrey RH5 6AA

On

Saturday August 1st 2009 from 10:00

James will be holding five Lego building sessions at which we can accommodate 120 people each. If weather means the event can be held outdoors as well we may be able to allow more people to take part.

The sessions will be held at 10:00, 11:30, 13:00, 14:30 and 16:00. All sessions will last one hour each. Every session will be filmed and so you must be prepared to appear on TV!

Due to the huge level of interest we have received we are turning this into a ticketed event – but there will be no charge.

You will be able to collect two tickets per person for one of the above sessions from 09:00 on Saturday morning.

Once the tickets are gone, you can wait to see if we can accommodate more people at the sessions but we can make no guarantees.

If you are unsuccessful on this occasion, you will be able to register your interest for future sessions.

PLEASE REMEMBER THAT JAMES WOULD ALSO LIKE YOU TO BRING ANY UNWANTED LEGO WITH YOU THAT YOU ARE HAPPY TO DONATE TO HIS HOUSEBUILDING CAUSE.

I don't think my H and I will be going as it's a long drive from Brum to essentially queue for tickets which we might not get but maybe some local Hitchers might be up for it?

    It's my secret childhood dream.

Building a house from Lego that is, not meeting James May.

Although admittedly that would also be quite cool.

Sadly, all his rules, timetables, tickets and queues seem to have sucked all the fun out of the idea.

I really want to as my mates live across the road from Denbies estate and we really love their wine (we had some for our wedding) and lego but unfortunately I'm taking train in the opp direction this weekend.

My mates are going though, lucky things.

<small claimette to fame> I kind of made this happen. I look after the PR for LEGO (well, do until today, as I'm leaving my job in about half an hour!) and helped negotiate the deal between LEGO and the production company. We've wanted to do this for ages but finding the right vehicle (scuse the James May-related pun) was paramount and the cost is hoooooge.

Well done you FW! It's a great idea and will make for fab TV. It's just a shame that the production company have decided to do this "come and queue" business which is fine for people in that area but not really do-able for anybody further afield. A long drive for potentially no fun at the end of it! Why they couldn't have issued tickets via email I don't know. <rolls eyes>

I was itching to relive my childhood and get building! ?

No idea why they didn't, out of my hands now sadly - once they get the green light and the budget they're pretty much in control of the whole thing. I think <sssh> that they've taken on a bit more than they can chew as filming schedules are waaaay behind where they should have been and they're running around like headless chickens!

I was going to build a giant LEGO statue in Trafalgar Square on a mock-up plinth to match the others there which house works of art (not with my own hands, you understand ?) but for some reason I didn't get budget approval ?

I was all excited until I read the "come and queue" bit. I don't think I can really drive all the way from York to maybe get to build a lego house. It would have been so much fun.

I would love to do this! It's not that far away from me, but sadly - well not sadly really. We're heading for the in-laws in Dorset for the weekend. I can't believe I'm missing the chance to hang out with the May!

Look forward to seeing it on tv though!
