Anyone a club/organisation treasurer?

Sunset21, 24 January, 2009 at 14:48 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

I'm just trying to open an account, Barclays are sending me an info pack but just wondered if I should be looking for a building society account that might pay us a little bit of interest - we'd only be paying in about £1500 a year though so not sure it'd make much difference.

What accounts do you have and would you recommend them?

We had Barclays and I found them to be completely useless. Changing a signatory one time took 8 months - they sent the wrong forms, then they lost the forms, then they didn't ask for ID when they should have done. It might just have been our local branch though as it did seem dependant on who you dealt with.

We had a treasury current account and a high interest account, so they should be able to offer you both.

I assess funding applications for community organisations, and a lot of them seem to use the cooperative bank

I was treasurer for two clubs, they were already established so I wasn't involved in picking the bank accounts. One had an account with Barclays, which was useless, so we switched over to a charity account with First Direct/HSBC ( i can't remember the name of the account)

The other club has an account with HSBC which seems to go OK.

    HTH!

Thanks all. I'll have a look at HSBC and Co-Op today, only think putting me off is that there isn't a branch of our main town, whereas with Barclays there is so I could bank the day after I take the money IYSWIM

We use Barclays, tbh that was who we originally set up with, and seem to have got on OK (mostly). It is convenient as there is a branch in town so I can pay in money easily, but all other transactions I do over the phone anyway, so location is irrelevant. As a bank they are fine for us, apart from our Account manager, who never phones back within the 3 hours she promises to.

    Good luck
