Hello. If you ask this on OT someone might be able to help. I have been but it was a few years ago now. I think we just had to fill something out on the plane.

    HI,

How lucky! We got engaged in Egypt at Easter and it is a lovely place to stay. We didn't need injections or anything special to stay at Sharks Bay, in Sharm-el-Sheikh. I don't know about Egypt proper? We were told on arrival at the airport in Sharm that we only needed a visa if we intended to go out of the resort - you can sort all this out at the aiport on arrival I think. We certainly didn't go with a visa and some people at the airport were sorting it out there. We didn't go for the visa on arrival but I don't think it was that much money. We only went to sunbathe and swim! Didn't do any site seeing! Well, we had just got engaged! Hope that helps you.

We went last year for christmas and new year. The visa is paid for on entry and costs £10 each. You pay in sterling, make sure you have two seperate £10 notes as I have heard they take a £20 note as one payment and don't give change! I think it's recommended that you have Tetnus, Yellow fever and one of the Hep injections, however we had all these when we went to Turkey ealier on in the year - check with your GP as they'll be able to tell you.

We went to El Gouna, just outside of Hurgarda and had a great time, the people are really lovely

Like Essexmum said, speak to your GP about injections. We had to have them to go to Luxor, but I can't remember which ones we had. I'd recommend getting hold of the Lonely Planet book about Egypt. There's all sorts of useful information in there. (Including about the visas).

Ok, for egypt you do need a visa. You can either get it on arrival (stand in long queues, follow the crowds) or you can always apply to the Egyptian consultate in London for your visa in advance so that you don't need to queue on arrival - but that's probably too much hassle.

This costs approx. £12-15 sterling depending on exchange rate. When i was there in October 2007 it was £15, in July 2001 it was only £12.

Recommended vaccinations are typhoid, tetanus, polio and Hep A. You shouldn't need any others if you are planing on staying in resort most of the time.

Just remember, after handling the egyptian currency, wash your hands! Most of the tummy bugs come from handling the money and not from the food & drink!

We did an overnight trip to Cairo/Luxor - flew out to Cairo did the pyramids and sphinx and then went to the museum, then we flew to Luxor spent the night on a Nileriver cruise boat. In the morning we went to Karnak (a must - much more impressive than the pyramids IMO), then went onto the Valley of the Kings and did 4 temples including King Tuk (although a bit boring as there is nothing in it!). Then we wre transported back to our hotel via coach convoy (at least 50 coaches, quite an impressive site). If you can fly di it, although it's more expensive(it cost us just over £1k for 2 adults and 2 children) it's worth it, we were knackered afterwards as so much is crammed into the two days so GOK how muchb more tired we would be if we done the coach journey both ways!

We also did the jeep safari which took us into the desert, driving over the dunes with the driver playing 1980's rave music at full blast - it was great fun, we also visited a Beduion (not sure of the spelling!) tribe, rode a camel and had food while watchi9ng traditional dancers - all in the desert. Most recommended that one!
