Anyone been to Gumbet in Turkey?

Ann-Louise, 14 January, 2009 at 20:41 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

Wondered what people thought of the place or if you had any recommendations for things to see and do?

Thanks

Hi, my hubby is Turkish and we have been to lots of places in Turkey. Marmaris, Gumbet and Bodrum aren't the nices places to go. Its very Blackpool abroad (Mr R's words!) with stag and hen types. Its also very ££ as its all geared towards boozing. Olu deniz, Hisaronu, Ovacik, Fethiye (among others) are much nicer family places.

    I actually met my h2b in Gumbet! ? ?

I agree with Rhea, it is very blackpool like.. good if you want a piss up mate holiday! However, i wouldn't go back as a couple or a family. The beach is also rubbish!! I just went with my best friend on a cheap last min hol.

I stopped in Bodrum and to be fair I quite liked it and I am a holiday snob. We went just out of high season though and avoided the night clubs just prefering to walk around and enjoy the sun. I suppose it depends what you want, I was literally there to sit around and read a book!!

My Dad and brother live in a place called Turunc near Marmaris which looks lovely (I havn't been), seems much more laid back and quiet.

On the plus side.. there is only one street for bars and clubs so you could just avoid it. We found some nice restaurants, none on the main strip i might add! Also there was a lot of families there, so they also must have avoided the strip! (There is a ice cream stand near burger king.. the man has a gun!! Dont ask!... Best ice cream ever!!! Smiley laugh) x

Also.. There is a water park.. was a bit dated, but we had a good day.. wouldn't recommend walking around barefoot. Turkish baths are a must... even for small children. We took my niece when she was 2 to one and she liked it more than us! Smiley laugh x

Thanks all. We will be avoiding the nightlife so not too worried about that.
