Anyone been to Hawaii?

If so, do you have any hotel recommendations?

Budget - none

Wants - total R&R. 5*+ treatment.

Smaller hotel rather than massive preferred.

If it doesn't have internet connection, telephones, outside communication - even better (although to find that I'd need a shack on the beach I reckon!)

Glorious pool.

No kids preferably (I only know of a few hotels in the world who cater for adults only!)

To be treated like Royalty and thoroughly spoiled.

Does such a place exist in Hawaii?

This is no help at all unless you're planning to use the process of elimination, but don't go to the Westin Maui ?

I stayed here 5 years ago, it was fabulous and I loved it.

Looks like they've done it up since I stayed, but it was lovely then and the staff were fantastic. I seem to recall the pool wasn't spectacular, but it's actually on Waikiki beach so I didn't go near the pool.

We stayed at the Marriott Maui (Ocean Club I think?), it was nice but not 5* is the Westin close to the Fishermans' Village?

I'm sure there are couples-only resorts on Hawaii - I'm pretty sure we bypassed one on Oahu right on the beach, even more likely on Maui or Kauai. I loved Hawaii and I'd love to go back. We stayed in the Pacific Beach hotel in Honolulu which was nice, but not what you're after, but it was right over the road from the beach, bliss. If you want trips out, I loved Waimea Falls park and the Polynesian Cultural Centre - very different places, the park was lovely and tranquil, the Centre full of people and traditional displays - probably really cheesy but I loved it ?

We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon - 5 nights in Kauai and 5 nights in Maui. The better of the 2 hotels we stayed at was the Ritz Carlton in Maui and while it was a nice, plush hotel, it wasn't kid-free (which I was quite surprised and disappointed about). But I don't think it's really what you're looking for since it was a pretty big hotel. To tell the truth, I wasn't as impressed with Hawaii as I thought I'd be - I didn't think the beaches were that nice and the food was pretty overpriced for what it was.

The Kahala Hotel & Resort is gorgeous - quite possibly the best hotel I have stayed at.

It's about a 10 minute drive from Waikiki beach so it's away from all the crowds and a bit off the beaten track (which is what we wanted) but not too far if you want shopping or other restaurants.

As well as being on the beach, they have a lagoon with dolphins. We had a room overlooking the lagoon and it was amazing.

We loved Halekulani (Waikiki) and while it does not have all the things you wanted/did not want, I did not see one child there or any big groups of guests during our one week stay there last year.

Another fan of Hawaii here, if you want a quieter holiday maybe Maui or one of the other islands would be better suited than Oahu? That being said we went to Oahu for our honeymoon and stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian resort. It's a massive hotel but right on the beach, although probably a little busier than you're looking for from what you mention you want.

We stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian too for our honeymoon. While it was a bit bigger than what we wanted (well what I waned anyway) it was a beautiful hotel and we felt really pampered. If it was my choice I wanted to stay at either the turtle bay resort on Oahu (North end of the island and very quiet) or stay on the Big Island, there was I *think* a Hilton resort there where they had a gorgeous looking pool and dolphins in the resort.

I second the Turtle Bay resort. We didn't stay there but it's position is so different from the Waikiki end of Oahu. We were back-packing at the time and staying near the turtle Bay Resort but we were in a wooden hut - it was just bliss. I remember sitting on a deserted beach at dusk with H watching the surfers while drinking rum... ahhhh I love Hawaii.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and recommendations.

A friend of ours recommended Bora Bora, but hell, it costs about $3,200 just in flights - EACH! What is it about that island eh?

Waikki is a bit busy I think. Although so is Dubai, and we managed to find solitude there.

Any more suggestions most welcome Smiley smile

I'm going to Maui in 10 weeks and counting!

Not stayed myself but in my research for our trip I found that Wailea beach Villas get fantastic reviews. You can either rent directly through the management company or rent through an individual owner on vrbo- normally better rates but you don't have the security of booking through a company. http://www.waileabeachvillas.com/index.php

Four seasons, Wailea also gets very good reviews- I've just been checking out the rates for their spa to use during my trip!

Wailea is on the South end of Maui and is apparently the quiet, relaxed and most upscale resort area on Maui.

Tripadvisor have Hawaii forums so you might get some good personal recommendations if you post your requirements on there http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g29220-i86-Maui_Hawaii.html

Oh and the Maui revealed (or whichever Island you chose) books are great too and they have all their accomodation reviews online with aerial views of each resort so you can see where it is relative to the beach etc.
