Anyone been to Mexico for a week?

mummymrs2b, 13 November, 2012 at 16:21 Posted on Planning 0 10

Just wondering if anyone has been but only for a week? I wasn't sure as it would eat into our honeymoon the 11 hour flights and travelling etc. but after looking at the other sensatori resorts, due to cool weather (in April) or oh being adamant he won't go to Egypt due to the fighting, were left with Mexico! What would you do? Or have you been for just a week?

    Hi,

I went to Mexico last year, Riviera Maya but we went for two weeks, I have to say in all honesty i don;t think a week would be long enough for you to really settle down and enjoy it, it is a lot of travelling and it takes a couple of days to settle in and really enjoy the place.

I really recommend Mexico though if you can get there for longer - we stayed at El dorado Seaside Suites, best most romantic hotel I have ever stayed in, gutted we have already been or would be going there for our honeymoon! If you do go try and get to Coco Bongos for a night, great fun!

I can't go for any longer. 1- because the kids only stay with my mum & dad and they only have a week off. 2- ill be bad enough without them for a week as I've never been away from them other than the odd night. Plus I doubt oh would have any more time off as he's self employed so shutting the garage for a week is like getting him to pull his teeth out! Ha ha.. Not sure what to do.

If you think you could only ever get over there for a week then I would say go for it, just be prepared to not want to come home, but i guess that;s the case when you go away anywhere nice! You will have plenty time to relax and sunbathe, eat lovely food etc and watch the world go by, when we went i just wanted to visit loads of places and see different things, but if you are going with the main aim to relax and spend quality time together then I am sure a week would be long enough, and it is a perfect place to go on your honeymoon! x

We have been to Mexico twice for 2 weeks and I really wouldn't reccomend going for a week. It took us at least 2/3 days both times to settle in after the jet lag and the long travel times, and all the people we spoke to were the same. We made friends with one couple who had gone for 9 days and even that really took it out of them and they regretted not taking the fortnight.

Mexico is fabulous though, we are looking to go back again for a third time next year!

The travel I do with work has really made me think differently about questions such as this. I've been to places such as Hong Kong, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, New York for just a day or two sometimes. I know it's different when you get to travel in business, but it does mean I probably think it's worth going places for shorter lengths of time than most people think is reasonable!

I personally would rather fly somewhere further to get the decent weather. Have you thought about the Caribbean? That's a bit closer.

If you are thinking of going for a week I would recommend somewhere with a short transfer time from the airport (but not so close you can see the landing gear of the plane!). That will help as it's often the bit at either end that is most tiring.

Hi, we went for a week this year we stayed in an amazing hotel in Cancun, and it was lovely, would we have stayed for two weeks maybe not, 10 days yes, but a week was more than worth it. I say go for it. Yes its a long flight but so is the Caribbean..It was our premoon a test drive for the honeymoon well thats what I'm calling it anyway.?

When we got back after 11 nights away in Mexico I was totally jet lagged, so for me feeling that rough again wouldn't be worth just a week, I would want to make the stay longer.

However we are going to the Carribean for Christmas for a week so I'm not even following my own advice!

I went to Cancun for a week and had an amazing time. Went to see loads of sites, spent days on the beach/round the pool, shopping and was out every night drinking and dancing. I went to the Dominican Republic for a week and enjoyed that just as much (except it was a bit tamer as I was with my mum and bro), came home for 3 days then flew out to Mexico and I was fine with jet lag. Might have been because I was out clubbing all the time at home so lived on basically no sleep anyway ? 100% do-able though and I would definitely do it again.

We went to Mexico for 1 week two years ago. It is a long way to go and people thought we were crazy but I would 100% do it again! The Sensatori resorts look amazing - you should definitely go! It was one of the best holidays we've ever been on & an amazing place to go on your honeymoon :-) x

Yes we have been to Mexico for a week, still worth the trip, even though the long travel time. The Eldorado Royal swim up suites, and Sensatori are breathtaking, Dreams in Cancun is also beautiful if you end up taking the kids. We have three kids under 3 years, so Mexico is too far. We will be trying the Egypt Sensatori in March / hopefully the fighting stops
