Anyone been to Nairn?

ebee, 8 June, 2009 at 12:19 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

... looking at stopping off somewhere for a few nights with the kids on the way back down from Orkney in August .... there's a parkdean holiday place in nairn which gets good reviews an works out pretty cheap for 3 or 4 nights in a caravan.... so is nairn nice? the camp and the beach look lovely in the photos but it's always good to hear from experience ?

I've close family that live there and we usually stay just outside ourselves.. So I know it really well x

Its a small seaside town really, with a high street full of the usual stores like semichem/boots/shoe shops/mature lady dresses/ usual seaside touristy shops etc.

The caravan park is really good, I've never stayed in it but we walk through it alot with the dog to get down to the woods and its really tidy and clean. There is a play area and your right on the beach. Theres a dog side and a non dog side (the caravan park is on the dog side).. At the beach itself is an outdoor paddling pool and crazy golf etc and there is a huge cricket pitch that you can fly kites on etc. (When in August were you thinking?)... The Nairn games are on the 15th so the shows will be up for a week before and usually a week after and they are right on the beach side (next to the cricket pitch)..

The beaches are fab but its the moray firth so the wind can be chilly but I grew up playing there in the summer and never felt the cold!

? thanks peanut - sounds just like orkney then ? it would be the end of august, so just after the nairn games I think... we wouldn't really be going for the weather, but as long as there would be enough to keep the boys amused for three days we'd be sorted (it has a swimming pool I think so at least we can do that if it pees down!!)

Very like Orkney then!.. Its only 20 mins from Inverness so you have the big swimming pool/ice rink/shops etc there.

There is a soft play just outside Brodie on the way to Elgin and so you would be covered no matter what the weather

I'm over for most of August so it better be good weather in nairn I tell you!
