Anyone been to Nice in France? Expensive?

The Duchess, 23 July, 2010 at 22:45 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 4

We were hoping to go to Nice next summer but everyone we talk to says it's really expensive to eat out. We were planning to rent an apartment with fully fitted and functional kitchen, proper fridge freezer, cooker, oven etc. I am more interested in the price of the basics in a supermarket. Eg, bread, fruit, chicken, pasta and of course beer and spirits.

We usually rent villas when we go away and tend not to venture out at meal times, preferring to cook our own food anyway.

Does anyone have any experiences they'd like to share?

TIA Duchy ?

    Nice is beautiful!

It's the sort of place you can spend as little or as much as you like. Yes, some of the restaurants are expensive, but then look at any other city. To me the groceries seem expensive but I think that has more to do with the weak pound against the euro.

Bring back the Franc, I say!

Thank you Naboo and Cricket Bride.
    ?

I guess what you save on cheap flights, you lose out on grocery shopping. I think we're going to go for it. We always wanted to go to various parts of France and thought Nice would be a good place to start! Thanks for your input xxx

    You're welcome!

It's definitely worth a trip to Monte Carlo if you can go. The people watching is amazing!
