Anyone been to the Roman Baths in Bath ?

DDiva, 14 August, 2008 at 13:29 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 9

Just looking at ideas for our trip to Bath over the bank holiday.

When visiting the actual Baths and there are 3 main options and wondered if anyone had been and had any thoughts

  • Visit baths during the day with tea/lunch at the pump house possibly when the musicians are there.
  • Visit the baths and use the Thermal Spa – not sure if the weathers as bad as it is at the mo !
  • Visit the baths during the afternoon/ evening as its late opening and the restaurant has a special menu and the Baths will be all lit up- should be very pretty.

Any other recommendations of things to see or restaurants to go to much appreciated.

Thank you in advance

DD xx

    Bath resident here!

Pump rooms are lovely and the Spa is as well. However during the day the Roman Baths will probably be totally rammed so maybe going in the evening would be best and it looks extra beautiful all lit up!

definitely go to the abbey as its gorgeous, and look out for all the pigs in town! ? (you'll know what I mean when you get here!)

any other questions im happy to help

Il Tocco is very nice, also try the moon and sixpence or Loch Fyne if you like seafood. Or the Hole in the Wall. There's also a very nice new greek place called OPA on North parade.

if you liek cocktails, try a place called Pulp which is near the Theatre Royal

    ?

Oooh, I am really excited about going this weekend! I have added "Pulp" to my list of possible bars and restaurants. I hope it doesn't piss down all weekend.

If you want romance, go up Solsbury Hill at night with a picnic and some wine and look at the city lights. Did that with an ex (one of the decent ones that I like and still loosely keep in touch with although we are both happily married to other people now) , ooohh, 14 years ago now, and still go all warm and fuzzy every time Ihear the Peter Gabriel song..... Access is down a narrow lane (just before Batheaston, I think)off the Upper Bristol Rd - Anna Banana can probably give you better directions - I could find it but there is no way I could tell you accurately.

Thank you, we are actually staying in a B&B off Upper Bristol Road.

Not sure if I can fit everything in this visit but will be passing by often as my sisters moved to Wales so will have the chance to go back again hopefully.
