Anyone do Body Attack

mrsmagoo, 26 March, 2009 at 21:54 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 8

After thinking about it for a few weeks iv taken the plunge and booked myself into body attack at my gym. Iv watched a few clips on youtube and it seems good fun. Can anyone tell me what to expect? Will i be able to walk afterwards?

Did RPM on tuesday for the first time in ages and thought i was going to die. Once i stopped myself from dying i actually enjoyed it.

Thanks

I did about three classes before deciding it wasn't for me. I'm a massive follower of Body Pump and I just wasn't get the buzz that I get from that. I think it all boils down to technique. And being put off my instructor shouting things out like "aim for the head" "smash the skull" and other stuff.

If you like boxercise or self defence then you will really like it and it helps if you're quite coordinated between your arms and your legs which it appears I'm not! ?

Give it a go. It's a good workout and the music is good too.

I've been doing it for 2 weeks. It is supposed to be a good fat burner.

I have found it tough and am obviously not that fit, but I'm persevering with it.

You can take it high or low so you don't need to kill yourself at the start.

The only thing I have been worried about is injuring myself by not doing the moves properly as it is so fast paced.

I've done it, but prefer Body Combat and Body Pump. I find it a bit slow and not as energetic as Body Combat, and I prefer Body Pump for the toning aspect.

Right, completely ignore my post further up - that was my experience of Body Combat! Thanks Imelda for making me realise I got my class names mixed up.

Body Attack - I did one class of this and I loathed it. I've done a lot of musical theatre and it was just like being in the chorus of a Panto!! ? Just not for me. It wasn't "serious" enough and I found it very repetitive and boring. The information I read about it said that the moves were based on athletic training so I was really surprised when I went along and it was completely different.

Given a choice, I'd prefer Body Combat! ?

    Thank you everyone

I am a huge fan of cheesy music etc and loved body vive, unfortunatly the uptake at my gym was poor that they stopped the class. I am tempted by body combat but a bit worried i wouldnt be able to keep up.

I had surgery on my knee in jan and i am only just getting back into classes etc. Im also very near to my weight target and the last few pounds are going to be tough to get off. I seem to still be holding on to my fat around the middle, my bottom half is tiny and i have this ring around my waist. Any idea how to get rid of that?

I did RPM on the recommendation of my physio to try strengthen my thigh muscles as they have wasted due to a long a term injury which the surgery has supposed to have corrected.

I hate going to classes where i know no-one as i lack self confidence, I might try and get myself into a body combat session.

I did one session of body pump and wasnt that impressed. I dont think i knew what my weights were supprosed to be and the instructor didnt really advise me. I could barely walk the next day. Having two young children demanding to ba taken to the park isnt nice when your walking like you have just given birth!

Iv booked my body attack session for sunday, so heres hoping!

Hope you enjoy body attack, I love it (although haven't done body pump or body combat so can't compare!) It's so popular at our gym you really struggle to get booked in. It is hard work but you can take it at your own pace and there are always the options. The only bit I cannot do are the press ups, they are a killer.

    Enjoy!

Just wanted to add that I love it too. I booked what I thought was a step class but found it had recently changed to body attack and just the name scared me but the class itself is great.

Each track has different moves and our instructor also always gives us high & low options and I often switch to low rather than give up to keep moving. It can sometimes be a bit repetitive and the press up track is a killer but I'm so much stronger and fitter now as a result. I combine it with body pump, badminton & a gym session to get an all round workout each week.

PS Body Combat scares the hell out of me, looks difficult and I'd be afraid of kicking someone else so I've avoided up til now even though it's the most popular class by miles at my gym!

Champagne - the most popular class at our gym is definitely Body Pump. For the new release weekend you have to book in advance (max. 30 places) with a reserve list of a further 15 and there are usually loads of disappointed people who couldn't even get on that!

MrsMagoo - the trick with Body Pump is to pick a lowish weight - say 2.5kg on each end and for the first six sessions, stay with that weight for every track and then only start gradually building up for the larger muscle groups (like squats, back and lunges). It's definitely all about getting the technique and focussing on that and not how much you're actually working with. I was very hesitant to up my weights until I knew what I was doing.
