Anyone do scrapbooking as a hobby?

Mrs Bloom, 14 May, 2009 at 20:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 23

I'm looking for some inspiration/advice!

I'm quite crafty but I've never done scrapbooking, but I'd love to. I make greetings cards made my own wedding invitations and it seems like a natural step. I have lots of mementoes from my wedding that I'd liek to display in a more intersting way than just sticking them in an album.

A new craft shop has opened up two doors down from my work and I keep buying things but can never get started! I think I'm afraid to stick things down in case it all goes wrong and it's too late to change it then...

I have started a wedding one and one each for my children. It's a great hobby, I am always saving little mementos etc. I haven't done anything with mine for a few months so about time to update them! You can buy some gorgeous papers etc, try the scrapbook boutique website.

If a page goes really wrong you can just start again! Position everything before sticking and try to get some kind of theme/colour scheme for each page.

Goodness, that's beautiful. It's given me goosebumps. So much work has gone into it, it must have taken her forever to do. It's a lovely thing for you to be able to pass on to yourown family one day too ?

I've just started. I've been going to a cardmaking club for about 2 years and now we've started a scrapbooking group. Some of the tips we had were to start small, we started with 6x6 papers because 12x12 is a huge blank piece of paper and can be a bit daunting. 8x8 is a good size too.

Picture a photo (or whatever you want to use) and pick out colours from the picture, to plan your background paper and embellishments.. Then start building up from there, but don't stick anything down until you are happy with the layout and there you go. There are some really lovely papers available.

Here a couple fo pages I have done:

    Good luck ?

I agree with Lady Gooner by starting with a smaller scrapbook. I did my first scrapbook for my parents 40th wedding anniversary. I was really pleased with it. I make cards as well so you have a start there as it can be like a card on a bigger scale. Before I did the scrapbook I did do an exploding box and a book card(don't know how to explain it?) I did look at pictures of other scrapbooks online and in magazines but to be honest I found them quite daunting and scared me a bit. I just sorted out the pictures and papers and I got ideas from there a bit like cardmaking. I have since helped my friend do a scrapbook for her brothers birthday. My next project is one for my H for our wedding anniversary. Have fun!

Liz, that scrapbook is amazing-such a labour of love. I can see why it would be the best present you could get. You are lucky to have such an amazing grandmother.

It can be a bit daunting when you first visit, but don't be put off. Everyone's very helpful over there and you'll soon find your way around. What's your user name there - assuming you've signed up? I'll come over and find you and help you out, if you like.

Where do you scrapbookers buy your supplies? Any particular sites I should look at?
