Anyone doing their own flowers?

KateyP, 5 September, 2011 at 11:49 Posted on Planning 0 15

I'm tempted, as I want them to look rustic and simple (which will happen by default of my non-existant crafty / creative skills).

Are you ordering your flowers from a wholesaler? Have you done test runs (flashes appreciated!)

Thanks, K

I'm doing my own but in silk, I did my sisters and they looked fab (if I do say so myself!)

I think doing fresh yourself would be very hard as there is far much more work involved and risk of not getting the flowers you want, them not looking right, have you got the time to do them on the morning of your wedding?

I think it all depends on what you are planning on having.

I'm planning on doing my own table decorations but getting a florist to do the actual bouquets and buttonholes etc. I've been collecting jam jars for ages, we're getting married in a barn so we're going for the whole rustic look too, but but I haven't practiced anything yet. We've also got an allotment so we can grow lots of sweet peas ourselves, and, we'll probably go to new covent garden market a day or two before the wedding and pick up some more flowers wholesale to supplement the one's we've grown ourselves. I don't think it's too difficult to do, if you are going for the rustic look (sorry about the giant pic):

this sort of style is quite easy to do on your own. I think!

I'm doing a mixture of flowers; embroidered felt, buttons, growing ? our own centre pieaces and dried. If the home grown ones fail to grow I'm going to get supermarket ones and rearrange them into something more special. There are a load of videos on youtube of how to put them all together.

The flowers from here are great http://www.flowers4florists.com/ . It's a Dutch wholesaller that works in the UK, although there is a minimum spend of £100 on orders. It's amazing how far a £100 order can stretch!

I havent exactly done my own but i did go to the whoelsalers with my mum and aunt and we chose the flowers for my aunt to make the bouquets. I am a huge fan of foam roses - they are so realistic, and personally iv chosen to have a few diamantes in some of them but you may prefer them natural.

Thank you, I was looking at the Flowers4Florists site earler.

Have you had any issue with flowers you like not being in season?

Any recommendations for white flowers in Feb? I want a mix; 3 vases per table with each filled with a different flower. Thinking tulips, hydrangea and gypsophila....

I'll get a florist to do all other flowers, i'm only interested in doing the centrepieces.

    thanks x

I've been considering doing my own too. I don't have a specific colour scheme and I couldn't care less what particular flowers I have in my bouquet as long as they are pretty and smell nice ?

If you call shoving peonies in vintage glass vases "doing their own", then yes......lol That's all I'll be doing. (I'm doing button bouquets)

using taller vintage glass vases, but similar to this pic

We're doing our own bouquets and centre pieces too but in silk/foam flowers. We've started on our centre pieces last night and I'm pleased with the result so far! x

If you have time, then have a test run and see how it goes. You will probably be surprised at what lovely creations you can make. There are some great ideas on the net too which can be simple but very effective. ?

Instead of cut flowers for the table decorations, I'm having pot plants. We're going to go to the local garden centre the weekend before to get ones in teh right colours. The plain white plant pots are 60p each from IKEA and decorating them with ribbon.

I was thinking about having silk flowers, but I think I'd regret it if I didn't have fresh ones.
