Anyone done the Race for Life

Vikster79, 16 March, 2012 at 14:02 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 16

Or is going to this year? How much did you, or how much are you expected (if this is the case) to raise?

Am considering doing it, but dont want to fall at the first hurdle and not be able to raise enough.

When I did it there was no fundraising target.

You pay your entry fee to cover the organisation of the event, and in theory you could earn no sponsorship and could still run it. One year I didnt bother trying to get sponsors as loads of people I knew were doing it, so I just sent in £20 after the race.

    Its fun, go fo it!

There's a few of us doing it, I'm joining blonde viki on the hyde park one 27th may, I know hatrick is doing one in birmingham area in july as well...

Don't think there is a target amount per say, even if you just pay your entry fee you are still giving something.

I did it when about 4 years ago and am considering it again this year. There was no fundraising target when I did it either. I walked it, but I had a really good time (luckily the weather was glorious) and it was really inspirational. Definitely worth doing.

I do it more or les every year. This year I am trying to get all the girls at work doing it too but only me and one other have signed up so far! I have set our target as £100.

I have done it a few times and there has never been a target for fundraising. You just pay the entry fee, you cna set up an on-;ine donation site and just see how you get on.

It was great fun though and a fab atmospherex

woot! (though you have beaten me to the sign up - work has agreed to pay my entry fee but all the red tape to get this has delayed things!)

Definitely no set fundraising target though, part of the £14.99 entry (a fiver I think) is a donation, rest goes to the running costs of the event.

I am doing it this year with my SIL, i put our group target as £200, i dont know if we will raise that much but it said it was just what youd like to aim for, it didnt say we had to reach a certain amount or anything though, unless i missed something?

No you are right, it's not mandatory to reach any amount. I think it asks for the target just in case you want to use their online fundraising tools. Your target would be displayed to anyone coming on to donate to you Smiley smile

I didn't do last year but have done about 4 years in a row before. Have previously raised between £600- £1k

I have no shame in asking people to sponsor me.My mum had breast cancer so my family normally donate plus I ask people at work etc. I set up one of those fund raising pages.

Such a great vibe on the day too. Good luck

I did it last year at Heaton park, think I only raised about £50 can't remeber and wanted to do it again this year but don't like asking family to sponsor me again, so may just pay the entry fee.

Have decided im definitely doing it and currently trying to rally round some friends to join me. Im going to do a cake and coffee morning at work and make all the lads in the office a drink and a slice of cake for a price. Do you think £5 is fair?

I'll do it with you Vik! We were supposed to be doing a big family one but they're all dropping out ☹️

Cake and coffee sounds like a fab idea!

I think that's where it was for I'll check Facebook. Doubt I'll be doing it with them now though as they all agree to it but when it comes to paying to register they drop out ?
