Anyone else been told this after their hair trial???

Beccy Sprout, 30 September, 2009 at 21:55 Posted on Planning 0 13

I was told by my stylist not to put conditioner in my hair the last couple of times I washed it before the wedding as I'm having an updo so the lack of conditioner will help it stay up as it will be less slick.... but my hair is dyed to b*ggery and I can't get a comb through it after shampoo'ing ergo HAVE to use conditioner....I'm sure this isn't a show stopper to an updo on the day, I won't be washing it... any other brides been told this??

Not for my wedding but when I wanted an up do for a wedding reception I was going to they told me I shouldn't have washed it.

I did on my wedding day though as my hair is disgusting otherwise and that hairdresser didn't have a problem.

Ohnoooo! you will be lil ms tangley (speaking from experience of the bottle too)...i didnt really have an updo but was told to wash it the night before the wedding to make it easier to use....in all my years of different hair do's and there has been a fair few i have never heard the conditioner thing, and i cant really make sense of it...will she refuse to do it if its conditioned? just doesnt make sense to me but there again im no real expert.

I'd never heard of it too.... would love to see how she would untangle it if I didn't use conditioner... of course it will stay up... that's what grips and hairspray is for!!

Never heard this either, but have been told on numerous occasions wash it the night before and that way it should have a better hold the next day. Hope this helps.

Same here - I've been told to wash it the night before but never not to use conditioner.

Yep, but only because my hair is quite fine and can turn to static fluffiness if over conditioned, so I have to use conditioner sparingly anyway.

I don't think it's a general rule that my hairdresser has. I think it just applies to me!

Im going against the grain here! I was told when I was having an up do not to condition my hair as it makes it all 'soft and silky' and then it doesnt hold properly. But I too have put my hair through years of bleach and its very thick and long so normally its half a bottle of conditioner a wash to get the comb through!!! The hairdresser must have used about half a bottle of conditioning spray or something like that and it too two of them forever to get the tangles out...as well as half my hair!! Im not sure all that out weighed using conditioner and some extra hairpsray! lol!

How did it go on the trial, had you conditioned it then, did it hold , and look good?

Its not a general rule for everyone , it depends on your hair.

I always ask before the trial how you would feel about not washing your hair on the wedding day. If the bride will have issues with not washing it then i do the trial with freshly washed hair to see how it behaves.

sometimes hair that is put up can be frizzy and flyaway if it has been washed that morning but if you give it a couple of hours to settle, then its normally okay.

Having said that if you are stating the hair and makeup process about 9am it would mean washing and drying hairabout 6am! so might be easier the night before!

I have never suggested 'no conditioner' .

to be honest . its the heat protectors and serums that are the biggest problem and straightners. (i always recommend not to staighten hair unless it is very very curly. if it needs the front doing i can do that)

below are my instuctions that i usually send to the bride with the timings:

hope that helps ,but check again with the hairdresser, she has done your hair so knows what will work. I'm sure she will put your mind at rest.

You all should have your hair washed the day before, so that it is completely dry on the day of the wedding. Make sure it is bone dry before you sleep on it. If the hair is damp it will not hold the style and be frizzy. You can use any of your normal products except wax or serum or a heat protector spray.)

If the hair that is to be put up or curled, is washed on the morning of the wedding, it can be flyaway and frizzy when styled. However if the hair gets extremely greasy and there is enough time for the hair to settle down (minimum 2 hours before setting or styling ), you can wash and dry it that morning. BUT Please check with me before the day if you prefer to do this.

    I know! My thoughts exactly!

Thanks Sharon for the tip.... think when I book into the hotel (tomorrow afternoon...eeek!) then I'll wash it then with a wee bit of conditioner and dry it then, ready for the next morning.

    Thanks for all replying ?
