Anyone else finding/found wedding planning more stressful than enjoyable?

MrsB-to-be, 10 December, 2012 at 22:15 Posted on Planning 0 17

Just wondering if it's just me...

5 months left to go... so horribly unorganised... work long, long days and just really struggling to get much done around everything else. Got the venue, registrar, my dress, save date cards sent, bridesmiad dresses picked but not bought, general colour scheme decided on, band booked.... but that's as far as we've got. Really want to start thinking about making invites, but struggling for ideas/ where to get things from.

Not a huge amount of point to this post other than a good old moan!! oh dear... someone give me a motivational slap please!!

This was me. I am rubbish at admin, and have a stressful job, work long hours with a commute, but still managed. You just do. Try not to get overwhelmed by it. It always scared me becuase I know I am not a natural organiser, planner etc. I get stressed jst planning birthday drinks usually!

I broke it down into little tasks of what I had to do which helped immensely, and made endless lists.

I managed to pull off (to me) an amazing, fairy tale day, so it's definitely doable by somebody who is horribly unorganised, like me. Plus my family/BMs are the same so didn't get a helping hand. Plus give tasks to your OH

Hope that helps. You can do it and you will.

Don't stress yourself out too much about it. There's still plenty of time. Is there anything you need a hand finding?

Hi, hope you dont mind me posting as im not a bride, but mum of the bride. My poor daughter has just bought a wedding shop (went looking for bridesmaid dresses and ended up buying the shop, it's a long story} She is stressed, stressed, and more stressed as every day goes by. The shop needs a good clean as the previous owners were scruffy hoarders, we've found all sorts of rubbish. I've took a week off work to help her clean, and she is getting phone calls from unhappy brides about orders not being completed. I just keep telling her it will be worth it in the end, and just keep her head down for the first few months, then hopefully things will get better.I feel better having a bit of a rant, so thanks. Dont worry about your wedding, i'm sure things will get done and you'll have a lovely day. My daughter gets married May 2013 xx

Thanks DaffodilWaves... currently trying to come up with a design for invites. I've got a rough idea of what I want (these sorts of themes http://pinterest.com/champagneweddin/invites/ - everythings champagne/ neutrals)... I can't even work out what the different styles of invites are in these pics... I like the first one, is that a pocketfold?!

Hi mam! I'm also getting married in May... it's creeping up and I realy really want to enjoy planning it. If only life didn't have to get in the way in the mean time! I hope your daughter's new shop goes well!! I'm sure once she's over the initial sort out it will be lovely Smiley smile

Hi, like everyone else has said, relax, you have time......... and breath.

Id just sit back for a minute, take a day to just sit with some magazine's or on the laptop and just so some searching. Check out wedding blogs, 'love my dress' has been great for me. Dont put any pressure on yourself to 'do' anything, just have a look whats out there, sometimes we spend so much time 'searching we forget to take it all in, if that makes sense :-) Sorry the mental health nurse came out in me then ha

Try to enjoy the planning if you can, because before you know it, the planning will be over. x

Hi there, for some crazy reason we decided to only give ourselves 7 months to organise ours (booked in Sept, getting hitched in March). I have to confess that I am a 'list' person so I would say start with that (or look on the different wedding sites for their 'to do' lists - Hitched has loads of great tools to help). I then gave myself a target of sorting out one thing each week - that way I have something specific to focus on rather than just panicking about everything at once. It seems to be working so far (fingers crossed!!).

I also have the excel spreadsheet from hell that literally has all of my planning, lists, costs, suppliers etc etc on it but thats says more about my slight OCD than wedding planning I think Smiley winking

All the best with everything and if you are stuck (or just having a bad day) then ask the ladies on here for advice - they are always really helpful.

    Nic x

Wasn't there also a lovely hitcher on here that had a comprehensive spreadsheet?

I can't find it at the mo. Rah. But a spreadsheet may help, try to tick things off as you go and before you know it, you'll be organised, motivated and actually enjoying it.

I think we're probably all in the same boat aren't we?! My wedding stationers have a blog on-line and one of them sums it all up perfectly, basically that you don't have to stress and that you probably already have everything in hand. It's quite amusing and will give you a bit of reassurance as well www.simplyhandmadedesigns.com/blog
