Anyone else having their dog involved on the big day??

Penny P, 19 September, 2013 at 07:46 Posted on Planning 0 23

We have two beautiful dogs and because they are such a big part of our lives we thought it would only be right for them to be my bridesmaids (along side two human bridesmaids and a flower girl)

They are very excitable and active so I think the two human bridesmaids will be dragged down the aisle by the two canine bridesmaids!

They are also joining us for the photographs.

Anyone else mad enough to do this??

I would have loved to have our labrador there, but sadly its just not do-able.

So we're having him as a little figure on the top of our cake with us.

I think a lot comes down to your venue, how well you could get them to behave and who would be in charge of them whilst they were with you.

If you can juggle the logistics of having them there I say go for it! I certainly would Smiley smile

My two bridesmaids (my sisters) will be in charge of the dogs during the ceremony and for photos so we don't have to worry about them.

We are trying to get them used to being in a situation where they have to be quiet and there are lots of people around them. The church we re getting married in are SO enthusiastic about the dogs being involved it's amazing. We are free to take them there whenever we please to get them used to the surroundings.

I have no doubt it will erupt into chaos on the day but hey ho!

I want our dog to be there. I asked the Vicar if he could come for some photo's afterwards and he said to just bring him along. They are open to pets at any time. They have three churches between the two vicars and one lady brings her dog every Sunday to communion. I don't know if we will have him there for the ceremony or just get him after. Our house is a 5min walk from Church. Plus my friend wants to bring my horse. I was going to pop and see him after for some photos at the farm but she is adament she'll bring him to the church. Goodness knows what will happen on the day. I'm not getting involved. I'll help her groom him and ribbon him up but I'm happy to see him afterwards.

We've got a 2yr old collie who is a massive part of our family so we're hoping to have her involved in part of the day. The venue are happy to have dogs and she'll be in kennels overnight nearby with my mums dog, so the owner said they will bring her down for some photos. She'd be too excitable for the whole day but we want her in some photos and it'd be lovely to see her on the actual day! She was also on our save the dates and she's on our invites.

We recently got two pet ducks too...I wonder if we should include them too haha!

My friend rode to her own wedding on her horse - you sure you don't want to do that Rosco?!

I think this is a brilliant idea! Obviously there are the logistics to think about but if we had dogs I would definitely want them involved, they are a part of the family after all! x

Our dogs will be involved too, not quite sure who will be doing the dog duties, probably the same person who will keep hitting the timer switch so the church lights don't go off ?

Our dog isn't involved and i'd love her to be Smiley sad She's really excitable though so don't think it's possible!
    Our church would probably let her attend but can't see the venue allowing it Smiley sad}
I think seeing everyone would make her hyper and can see her cutting my dress to ribbons so couldn't take the chance. Hoping to have some pics with her before we leave the house though as she really is part of the family and i'm sad she can't be involved.

I didn't want the dog to have a role, not my style and didn't feel right. But she had to be there as everyone she might have been looked after by was there. She was excitable and slightly noisy (fidgety) but it was fab to have her there and it was an informal day. She was great with all the various kids who begged to take it in turns to 'look after her'. My son popped her home in the evening though.

Seen a few doggies at weddings before but mostly they turn up after the ceremony to say "hello". Please don't take your puppy----why--I was about to take a very big group shot when the puppy showed up ahh no more big group shot as everyone rushed to the cute puppy. Very rarely I see dogs at the actual ceremony but here are some pictures of one that was at the ceremony. And also another bride with her horse that came to visit.

I'd love to have our dog involved in our wedding but the same as Bookish - it's not logistically possible.

He'd probably cause chaos anyway, he is a springer spaniel and lives up to that by being extremely excitable and bouncy ;-)

ATB - I've seen it done but it's fair to say Paddy lives up to his name. Knowing my luck he would be having an off day and I would be in a heap on the floor in a dirty ivory gown. As this isn't the look I was going for I'll keep my feet on the ground next to him!

I would love ours to be involved, but the venue does not allow dogs. Also my old dog doesn't even like it when there are 4extra people in the house so there is no way he would handle 50 people in a barn! My pup is polar opposite, he is a springer collie x and only a year old and is loopy he would jump on everyone and loves to give kisses which i am not sure our guests would appreciate! They will be on our cake though! If i thought the dogs could cope with the situation, i would have picked a different venue, but it wouldn't be fair on anyone involved.

My friends had their ferrets go down the aisle carrying the rings which was wonderfully weird.

I often have second thoughts on this whole idea but once we start rehersals with the dogs I think it'll either put my mind at rest or send me into a panic!

I would have loved my harrycat to be there but logistically it would have been a disaster!

we made do with a little harrycat as our cake toppers.
