Anyone else keep lurking on BT?

Weather Girl, 24 June, 2009 at 13:23 Posted on Planning 0 27

I'm sure many of you occasionally pop over to some of the other forums, such as OT and For Sale but does anyone else find themselves lurking on BT? I initially had a peek a few months ago when I couldn't find anything else to reply to and now I just keep lurking (obviously not having kids or anything yet means I can't contribute to a lot of things on there).

Maybe it's a case of me subconsciously trying to "prepare" myself for it all when OH and I decide to start a family of our own - I've been feeling extremely broody lately and what with a new baby in the family last year and one at the end of this year it's even more prominent!

Anyhow just wondered how many of you are doing/feeling the same?

    Guilty ?

I'm sh!tting myself about having a baby, I really am. I am so broody and know that I want two or three, but I'm really scared about the whole birthing process (especially when I read the reports!)

I may or may not have been in there a few times...........?

I'm very broody but we're not going to try until a year or so after we're married, doesn't mean i'm not interested in baby stuff though....Don't worry you're not alone!!!

I am also guilty of this! I think it's wanting to know what to expect when we do start TTC! I may start the 'flylady' routine they talk about too.

Me too! I seem to have a fasination with all the scary painful birthing stories, also all the stories of rips and tears afterwards. Honestly do not know why I want to read it but can't help myself. Can't wait for kids but need to wait until 2012 (not that I am too organised!) and all our debts are paid off ☹️

I saw something about this! What's it all about?? I'm rather intrigued....

We've talked about kids and for us it's the next step really. We both wanted to wait unti we're married and originally we'd said we wanted to be married for a while first but as time has gone on I would quite like to start trying maybe in the New Year. I think if OH is honest he'd say the same!

I know what you mean about the whole birthing thing though Ooh La La - it does sound rather frightening. Actually I've been told it's horrific but if we dwell on it I think we'd just never go through with it all lol!

From what I understand about the flylady thing it's small things you do to keep housework down, so you start off doing just one thing a day and then add another on, and another- then I think the idea is that it becomes routine so you don't spend hours tidying (as I seem to keep doing at the moment!). Maybe we should try and join in on their thread- they've just started a 'beginners flylady' thread, I'm sure they'd explain it better ?

I have been over there once or twice before out of curiosity or whenever WP is slow, and sometimes have seen some lovely posts on there, e.g. when someone has been TTC for ages and really struggling and then they get pregnant, which is quite nice to read ?

More than anything though they seem to have loads of abbreviations and phrases that just go over my head! Don't know what they're talking about sometimes ? Think it's all fertility and conception talk that they shorten.

I don't think it's relevant for me in the broody sense yet though. I don't think either me or OH will be ready for quite a while. We're only young (will be 23 and 25 when we get married), I've only been in my job for a year so will want to progress my career first, etc. Plus we both generally like our lives how they are at the moment and I think a child would be a big shock for both of us! Maybe when we're approaching the late 20s or early 30s we'll be ready, who knows.

My cousin and his gf are both 24 and they have a baby due in about 2 weeks time. They just seem so more mature and ready for it than we do! They keep asking us when we're going to start though - it's so weird! Just can't imagine it at the mo. I think some people are ready pretty early and then for others it takes a lot longer to get to that place. Strange really. *ponders*

You don't need to be actively TTC or a mum of a LO (little one) to post on BT - there are a few Hitchers who post but don't have kids and aren't trying. Come and say hello to us, we don't bite ?

Quick abbreviations for you all in preparation:

    TTC - trying to conceive

MTTTC - mid term trying to conceive (ie for more than 12 months or so)

DTC - determined to conceive (no exact time scale, may be down to PCOS etc)

POAS - pee on a stick

    BFN - big fat negative

    BFP - big fat positve

MINOS - mums in need of sleep

    See you over there ?

    Guilty as charged!

I'm very broody.. as is my OH (so its okay... right?!)

I do post on there a lot about my niece who is 3. I looked after her all the time when i lived at home, and now i live over a 100 miles away, however, i have still her 4 days a month, more in holidays, she comes on holidays with me and my OH (okay, not the one last week.. but normally). Her mum left her at 3 months old, my brother tries, but is pretty useless. She lives with my parents 4 days a week and her other nan 3 days a week. It has been discussed who she will live with full time when she starts school (it's okay at the moment as she's at nursery) and it's likely to be me and my OH which we're both fine about, as is everyone else. However, i need to finish my final year of uni then we can move house to be closer to family. I want to have my own child within the next 3 years. I'm almost 21 and i'm definately ready. I was the only person in my 6th form who had a baby seat in their car and she occasionally came to lessons with me! (very lovely teachers allowed this!)

We'll see how it goes with the whole legal stuff in the future. Atm it's very in limbo. x

Yep, big time lurker! Mainly I think as I am looking forward to the whole baby thing as much as getting married.

We decided to start trying around our first anniversary so all things being well, my maternity leave should start around the same time as the Olympics in 2012! However, having two older sisters and a SIL who all had problems conceiving, I'm well aware this is highly unlikely to be the case but it's nice to have something to 'bookmark' it with! I've also seen the bad bits of being in the intensive care unit of Great Ormond Street Hospital with one of my nieces when she was three months and those images scare me a lot more than giving birth. If having a baby was truely that bad then no one would have more than one, right?

For now, I shall continue to keep enjoying being an auntie many times over and marvel at how quick they grow up!

Er... sometimes i'm there more than here... ? ha ha. I really get into it. When pina colada was overdue i kept checking everyday to see if she'd had her baby yet!

i love reading the things they post about, the birth stories etc. i especially love it when they have photo shares so i can go 'awww' over the cute babies, or when they have toddlerism threads. they really make me laugh!

were not planning babies for ages yet but mr delicious gets a bit freaked out by how much i know about it all from stuff ive read on BT! and i've scared myself a few times by being silly enough to read about what happens after birth etc.

Oh no I have never been on there at all! I am highly curious now though - even just to find out about this flylady thing.

When we start TTC (I do know the abbrev.s tho) I might wander over and see.

I am ever so slightly broody now that our niece has been born, maybe just because I feel I should be with everyone asking if I am pregnant yet!

I do lurk over there but usually to see how ex-planners are doing.

I do like reading the threads though and remembering those times when mine were little.

I also love the support they all give one another........as I find everyone does across the forums on here.

Yep, partly because this lil monkeys mum is on there (my sister, tis ok, she posted this photo on there already, though some of you lurkers may have seen that!)

I think I probably snoop on what my sister writes and she snoops on what I write on here lol

After many many years of being totally against the idea of having a baby, seeing my sister so calm after having Holly may have changed my mind (and she certainly didnt have an easy labour!!!)

    I regularly lurk over there!

I'm really broody though, so i use the lurking as an excuse to try to get all info possible before we start trying for a family!
