Anyone else not having a big evening bash?

Fleur10, 20 November, 2010 at 18:13 Posted on Planning 0 5

Are there any b2b's on here not having the 'traditional' evening bash with disco etc? We decided against it as none of our lot would dance, none of us are into the typical music that is played at weddings and for us it would be a waste of money hiring a big venue to accomodate it. Instead we are having our wedding breakfast at a lovely grade 1 listed thatched inn, they have a separate restaurant which is very intimate and cosy (perfect for our 36 guests) It has a lovely inglenook fireplace, beams and outside area that they have given us full use of from when we arrive to midnight. The food there is so gorge and because its all cooked fresh by the chefs on site they are giving us the choice of 2 starters, mains etc on the day so people can pick what they want. We can have music as well, they have a system so h2b and I are going to do our own playlist. I think we feel much happier doing this, much better for us than an empty dancefloor plus we only have a small number of guests during the day so sitting in a big function room eating we would all look a bit lost. Our evening guests can still arrive later on and join us for a drink. Much more relaxed and less formal too which is what we like, it also means we can put more money towards the honeymoon. I just wondered if anyone else was doing this or been to a wedding that had gone down this route instead. ?

Hi, we are not having a disco etc. I love to party, dance & go clubbing but wanted a more relaxed affair where guests could talk with background music. I have hired a property for 4 days and all my family will be staying for the 4 days and the wedding day we have invited close friends to join us all day. In total there will be 44 people. We are having afternoon tea, after the registry office wedding, with a piano player playing during the tea, then an evening buffet with music from the I-Pod hooked up. We will have all the elements of the traditional wedding, i.e wedding dress, cake, flowers, bridesmaids and photographer but not the DJ!!

Marylou-lou, thats exactly what we are doing even down to the armount of guests being 44, how bizarre! Apart from thr afternoon tea and piano player that is. Both families are staying at the house we have rented. We are having a rehearsal dinner on the friday night, then on the saturday getting married at church and guests invited for wedding day and evening etc, some extra guests are staying on saturday nigght and then on the sunday all the guests are having lunch together. Sunday night will be close family again.

We werent sure whether to have a DJ or Band but i think we have now decided to have a juke box so people can get up and dance and choose there own tracks etc

    Hi Ladies,

This all sounds good to me.

Everyones idea of that perfect day, is different to the next person.

never do what's expected of you, its your day, you should have the day that you both want.

    Good luck ?
