I know there wasa thread a while ago about people not wanting to change their name at all but I was wondering if there is anyone like me who can't wait?? I know there wasa thread a while ago about people not wanting to change their name at all but I was wondering if there is anyone like me who can't wait?? I like my surname and I kind of feel guilty to my dad about being so keen to change it (not that he knows lol) but I have plenty of brothers and nephews to keep the family name going. It's a very common surname and I'm sick of everyone asking if i'm welsh* and if it's with or without an 'e' ? my oh's surname is quite rare, at least I've never heard of anyone else by that name and I just like it. The only faff is going to be changing all my documents - mine and my son's passports, residence permits etc.

*i have no problem with the welsh, I'm just sick of everybody assuming I am.

I'm really looking forward to us having the same name and being a "family", but Jones isn't the most exciting surname to have! Saying that, my current surname is really common and not very exciting either!

I can't wait!!!! Everytime I get asked to spell out my second name now, I always think in the back of my mind - "I won't have to do this when it's Jones!!"

Also, I'm forever assumed to be of German descent, when my Dad's family is Hungarian!

& I noticed the other day on the work schedule - they had my second name spelt wrong (the usual way that people assume it's spelt)

Don't know how they can manage this when they've seen my passport, driving licence & national insurance number!!

Rant over but I really do hate my surname, just 'cause of the ignorance of others!!! ?

I'm the total opposite, I'm going to end up with the most common surname in the entire friggin' world!! I'm going to have to think long &,hard about our children's names to give them something more interesting. It wouldn't work as a double barrel because my maiden name ends in S & his starts with it and the other way round mine starts Th & his ends th. Ah well.....

I can't wait to change mine! I'm going from quite a simple (although wouldn't say common) surname to one I'm going to have to constantly spell but from what I can see I'll be probably the one with my name! Always nice to be unique ?

I have to spell my surname now and will have to do the same when I am married.

Only difference is my new surname is pronounced oddly at times which some variations being another word for hooker. Its not a difficult name people are just stupid.

I also believe...quite badly....that being a MRS will give me a new respect within my profession as I am a tad young looking and I don't always getting taken seriously.

I'm looking forward to changing my name but not the hassle of doing it! Changed address twice in the last year and that was a painful & sometimes expensive process!

Currently have to spell my surname to people and will with my new one as well because there are 2 variations. I certainly won't miss people mispronouncing my surname - it's always the medical profession that get it wrong and always in a packed waiting room and the mispronunciation is not something you want shouted in front of other people!

I am one of 3 girls so our branch won't continue the name however I'm going to resurrect a family tradition and pass my, my mother's and FMIL's maiden names onto our children as middle names.

I'm looking forward to it as my current surname is really common, but with my married name I'll be the only one in the country! I'm not really sure if that's a good thing or not though...
