Anyone else snowed in?

bobbly1, 2 February, 2009 at 04:05 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 54

I know it is only 4am, but we have 6 inches of snow here and it is still snowing.

I ca't see where the pavement ends and the road begins.

It looks like it is a day staying in today. Even though I've been driving for 25 years, I would not be happy attempting the school run this morning in this weather (not even sure if the school will be open!), so it looks like my son will be getting the day off school! (1st day off in 2 years so I'm not too worried)

How abot other people - anyone else in this position today?

Now have 6 and a half inches of snow and it has reached the height of the bottom of the back door.

    Still snowing!

I am in south Bucks and I only have a couple of inches by the look of it but from looking at travel websites I'm not sure how much of my train/tube journey to work will be affected so I'm not going to attempt it for another few hours instead of leaving at 6.00 like I normally do. I'm working at TfL anyway so they cant complain if I cant get in if they have stopped the tubes and buses!

Dont think the kids will get to school either as they both go to schools quite a way from home up country lanes.

Hurrah it's Monday and I'm not running round like a loony and I can see our puppy enjoying the snow, I missed it at the beginning of January!

I'm in SW London and it doesn't look like any of my routes to work are open - ridiculous!

No buses are running here - we normally have one go past our house starting at 6am.

It is so eerily quiet outside - like everything is muffled.

Only a couple of inches here in Dudley but it's still snowing. I only live just over 2 miles away from work so I have no excuse not to walk in.

H set off from Derbyshire to London at about 5.30am. I couldn't dissuade him - but at least he's taking the train. (Will he ever get back?!)

I'm not taking my 3 year old swimming at her pre-school today - it's all narrow country lanes that aren't good at the best of times. (There's one corner on a hill where a stream runs across the road and freezes in the cold - I've lost all traction on that before now.)

If it clears up a bit we might go out to play later - there's only an inch or two here.

He may arrive in to london but will then be stuck as no tubes, buses (all day) or taxis!

Thick, thick snow here in SE London, and it's still coming down.

I don't fancy my H's chances of making it in to work today. I wish my baby was old enough to enjoy the snow, but at 11 weeks I think she's a bit too wee!

I'm on the border with SW London and Surrey (Kingston way). Looks like about 5 inches here. SWT website is down, as far as I can tell.

No doubt I could get to work (Westminster) but will I get back, esp as I would have to pick up my son at dead on 5pm.

My husband left as normal at 6.30 driving to Bromley. I really think he should have stayed at home.

    Im down near Gatwick..

I tried heading back to Herts last night and made it as far as the M25 junction before giving up and coming home.. A journey which normally takes 20 mins took me 45 and then had to do same back again..

This morning we have about 4/5 inches and Im not going to risk trying to drive this morning, though H has just gone out the door on his bike aiming to cycle 10 miles to work...... I might see him again in 30 mins..

About 7 inches here on SE London/Kent border nr North Downs. H was supposed to be driving to Wandsworth today which I'm pleased to say won't be happening as it'll be lunchtime before he gets there! It's still snowing too. We live at the top of a hill so if H did go out I'm not sure he'd get back.

It hasn't snowed like this since I was a kid

Checked son's school website, and school is closed.

He is currently outside making snow angels and a giant snowball!

H says if he can't get out of our car park, then he is not going into work. I've already had to lend a spade to a motorist whose car got stuck on the road outside our house!

Sounds like you've got some serious white stuff over there, hope you are all okay and that every one who has set off for work gets there or back home safely. Over here we have had a couple of light flurries but nothing more so whilst it's blooming freezing all is normal and no snow causing probs here.

Apparently the roads round here are all under inches of snow until the main A3 and reading the BBC travel site, even that's only just passable, so I don't think I should try to go to work - but why do I feel guilty about it?

We have about 6 inches here (South Essex/North East London borders). Poor H is about to make the walk to the train station in his long johns and waterproofs! Luckily I have Mondays off.

Just had a text from the boss telling us all to stay at home today. Just as well, as I don't see how I could have got in anyway. I'm in North London and the snow is still hammering down. Most of the tube lines are out and no buses are running in the whole of London.

Not snowing here (medway) but no trains at all. For once the problem is west of us - gets worse the further you get into London.

it was quite nice at half six this morning walking to the station making footprints in virgin snow....its only about 4-6 inches deep, but apparently is going to snow more later.

I've no choice but to stay home and try and 'work from home' - am not giving up a leave day which is the alternative!

I'm down near Brighton and in the garden we've got about 4 inches altho my work phonned and said not to go in as its impossible to get into Brighton at the moment.

I think they've closed the A27 which is a main route and are just advising people to stay at home as there is more to come. There are no busses or trains either !

I'm in Herts and we have a good few inches and snow still falling. I work in South London so made the early decision not to go in as I was worried I would get stranded by further snowfall through the day. Not to mention I am 7 months pregnant and the 15 minute walk to the station would have been rather trecherous. I've since found out that the college I work at is closed to students and staff anyway.

My stubborn husband was totally adamant that not only was he going in to work (C. London) but he was going to push our son to nursery in the buggy on the way to the station. Needless to say, it hasn't gone to plan and he is currently on his way home as we speak!

Here (near Sevenoaks) we have about 5 inches. I have made the decision not to take the risk of doing the school run as I can not tell where the kerbs are and it is an 8 mile round trip down narrow country roads. I rang school and the caretaker said not to bother as he had just come from here and it took him forever! Guess The boys will be driving me mad by about 10am!

I don't think anyone has made it into my daughters school as no one is answering the phone ?

Mr P is working from home, he didn't fancy travelling from Twickenham to Bracknell and not being able to make it back home.

I think we've had about 4/5 inches... so far, it has been snowing on and off since about 6pm yesterday.
