? That's what I think - on TMS they were saying how gracious he'd been. It is his second time leading a losing Aussie team over here, poor lamb ?

Mel, enjoy your meal out - surely you should go British shouldn't you? ?

I thought Ponting was pretty gracious in defeat but maybe I was watching something else. The stat comment is very true though! ?

However being thoroughly british I am over the moon about the England & Wales win. Really exciting end to a great series. Australia wouldn't let us win it easily (and rightly so).

It may have been true, but not very gracious, I thought anyway. He moaned about the pitch too - less so when being interviewed by Athers, but he griped about it more in his interview with Aggers on TMS, but both teams had to play on it <shrug>. However, losing the Ashes over here for the 2nd time running, especially after a long period of Aussie dominance up to 2005 (and then in 2006/7 Ashes too, let's face it), must be a very bitter pill to swallow. I generally like Ponting, and greatly admire his batting abilities, but the vision I like best is of him walking off the pitch after being stumped/caught/bowled or otherwise got out - he's a danger man so it's always great when he gets skittled ?.

The wicket was shocking though. You could see that a mile off. I would be annoyed about that too. But hey, I also would be much less gracious than Ponting was (even if he wasn't that much so...). In fact my H's teams wicket is in better condition than the one they were playing on and that's saying something.

I agree, you cannot deny his batting ability. He is a great player but I too smirked when he was run out today (oopsy!) and the other day when the ball flew into his face (not that I condone violence ? - the phrase spitting blood pretty apt!). I am an evil.

I only had TMS's reports to go on, they just said it was a wicket 'designed to force a result' (or something like that). I didn't even get to see the highlight shows on five (I did see today's) as we've been at my in-laws' and they can't get five. Even if the wicket was awful, both teams had to play on it - the Aussies were bowled out cheaply, but England's 2nd innings show it was still very battable, and so did the Aussie 2nd innings tbh, if they'd played like that in their 1st innings it could have been a very different game.

I loved the runout, it was beautiful to behold. Yay for England!

I had to tape it and watch it all later but didn't manage to avoid finding out the result first which was a shame. Some fantastic cricket moments in there. Loved Freddie's throw to the stumps and some of Swanny's bowling.

I only saw a short interview with Ricky P just afterwards and thought he came across ok but it sounds like he gave a few interviews.

RBH, he wasn't awful, it was just a couple of things he said. In the TMS interview he moaned about the pitch, which, as Spot says, was dry and crumbly (the wicket anyway), he then amended this in his on-pitch interview with Athers to say it wasn't a great pitch but didn;t lose them the match - he didn't say that in the TMS interview. he also said in his speech to Athers that statistically the Aussie side were better, that earrned him a few boos ? He could have been a lot more ungracious though, I may well have been if I were him ?

This conversation is going no where. It’s lacking the place of a good leader to head the things to come out on conclusion.
