Anyone else's pets flopped with the heat?

bobbly1, 29 June, 2009 at 17:35 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 13

I have 4 cats flopped on the patio (in the shade)

Two belong to me, the other two belong to two different neighbours!

They are all lying on their sides, all their heads pointing in the same direction, in a perfect row! (so much for my cats protecting their territory!!!!)

My cats don't seem to know what to do with themselves over the past couple of days - I don't think they enjoy the humidity much.

I have no idea where Kit is, but then I generally don't ?. I wish the kids would droop a bit though.

We have what looks like a furry sack melting under the bbq. She's not smelly in this heat so I presume Cat is still alive. ?

    My son has definitely drooped!

He came out of school looking like a beetroot! - apparently they spent 2 hours in the school hall practicing for the school play (and it gets really hot in the hall!)

He came back home and went straight into our bedroom, switched the air con unit on, and has only emerged to obtain ice creams from the freezer! (actually it makes a change from coming in and being "starving" and his first words asking what's for tea!!!)

H has rung to say don't bother to cook for him tonight as he is too hot, I've just had a egg sandwich - at this rate, son will be living off ice cream for the rest of the week, I'll be smelling of eggs by Friday, and H will be a shadow of his former self (and we will still have a fridge full of food!)

Lucy started late last week. She's tended to prefer lying on the floor (wooden floor) at the moment either on her side or on her back, compared to one of the armchairs which is her usual. When she does venture outside, she ends up laying under the apple tree and doesn't move from there, which is very unlike her. Usually she's into everything when in the garden.

I have 2 indoor cats. One is sensible and will find somewhere cool to lay. The other is very dim and runs around until he is panting. Luckily he loves water (playing with, not drinking) so hes had a play in the bath tub to cool down.

Our Oz has taken to sleeping in the bath during the day instead of his usual spot on the chair in the porch. Also i've been putting ice cubes in his water bowl (which confused him a bit) but it seems to help him as he is good and does drink quite a lot of water in the warmer weather.

My cat's a wise one. She's laying upstairs in our loft bedroom where the aircon unit is switched on cooling down the room ready for bed.

My cocker spaniel is really struggling with the heat, she doesn't know what to do with herself. One cat has taken to sleeping in the bath while the other sleeps in a gap under the hedge!

Ive got a fan on the poor guinea pigs, they are all sat there flumped. I think I'll put some bottles filled with water in the freezer tonight. You put them in the cage fo rthem to lie against. The cat is in and out of the fan that I have on me I think she is ok but might do an extra bottle to see if she wants to lie against it. The rabbits seem ok but they are outside and in the shade but I'll get H to check.

Our miniature dachshund is loving the sunshine and follows the sun patches round, but the Schnauzer is hating the weather, we've got her clipped as short as we can and I'm draping her with a wrung-out wet towel when she flops out under the tree on the stone flags in the garden. That does seem to help her stay cool (have seen this done at dog shows as well)
