Anyone ever flown with Thomas Cook?

Buffy Somers, 8 March, 2009 at 09:16 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 15

I am flying to Egypt tomorrow for a week in the sun ? but am a bit worried by the five hour flight, particularly as someone told me that the Thomas Cook planes are quite small and cramped. Has anyone any experience with thomas cook? also whats the entertainment like? - or should I just carry on a large book? ?

Bit late worrying about it when you're going tomorrow isn't it? I'd take a good book anyway just incase.

I wouldnt have though there would be any entertainment on such a short flight. We went to Cyprus (4 hours) with them and there was none. Id take a book.

Flights booked as part of a package like that usually are pretty crap. We flew to Greece a year or so ago and it was the usual no leg room, crap food and no entertainment but its a relatively short flight and theres nothing you can do about it now so just take yourself a book, ipod or a games console and you'll be there in no time.

We flew to Montego Bay in jamaica with Thomas Cook and going it was a 10 hour flight! We had very limited inflight entertainment (we were in Business class so got 2 extra channels) which repeated the same film about 5 times (watched mamma mia 3 times I was so bored!) . Considering we were in Business, the seats were extremely cramped so god knows what economy was like. On the plus side the air hotesses were great and we got loads of tasty food. Definitely take that book!

On a five hour flight I'd expect at least one film and maybe a couple of comedy shows, but no guarantees on the quality! Five hours wouldn't be considered a long haul so no extra legroom etc. It'll be exactly what you're expecting I should think, good book is an essential!

My housemate has just got her wings with them...I was supposed to have started training with them tomorrow!

Enjoy Egypt, had several fabulous night stops in Sharm and had a lovely holiday in Hurghada. Definately try a beginners diving course, well worth the extra cash when you are out there.

Just found their online magazine, looks like the main movie on the way out is Ghost Town and on the way back is Miss Pettigrew lives for a day (never heard of it).

Yes, but was nearly 4 years ago. Yes it was very cramped, but the staff were very friendly.

Flew with then last year to Corfu, unfortunately it was the flight that was taking the Falaraki (sp) contingent out so it was erm, an experience! There was a film coming back but not going out for some reason.

    ETA: Have a great holiday!

I think when we went, its one screen for 3 or 4 rows of seats so if your the furthest seat back, you can't see it properly as the screen is so small. You can listen the radio though.

If you want to watch the film then took your own headphones. They charge for headphones otherwise and they are crap - fall apart before you even land. The (very small)TV sets come down from the ceiling so unless you're in the right seat you won't be able to watch them anyway. We flew to Eygpt last Christmas, I found the sitch pitch awful (and I'm only 5ft 4"), the food awful and entertainment dire. however it's only 5 hours and once you get there you'll forget all about as Eygpt is fab (we went ot El Gouna). I also seen the journey as a means to an end so I arm myself with my ipod and a good book and just grit my teeth through the whole awful experience!

    Have a great holiday

You're welcome, and what they said about headphones - take a cheapy pair with you (I've got some left over from our last flight that I'm saving for the next hol) as they're often quite expensive. But take a book anyway, you don't know what the quality of sound/picture will be I'm afraid. Ghost town is supposed to be quite good though so I hope you get to watch it.

Are you going to the Red Sea side (Sharm etc?). If so, a snorkelling trip to Ras Mohammed national park is a must - it's wonderful and you see so much gorgeous sealife without needing to be able to scuba.

Similar to EGIB. We flew to Florida with them last Mayand paid the extra for business class. It was cramped and the seats were uncomfortable so everyone sat on the blankets. The entertainment wasn't great so as has been recommended take a good book.

The staff were lovely though. We had a 24 hour delay going out and we were looked after.

    Have a fab holiday.

We flew to Gran Canaria with Thomas Cook a few years back, so approx 4 hour flight. The seats were very cramped but bareable.

We had a movie going out and a few episodes of The Simpsons, coming back a different movie and a few episodes of My Family.
