Anyone fancy a peek at my dress????

Bride2b27, 9 July, 2011 at 14:46 Posted on Planning 0 10

Got the phonecall that my dress was in a couple of weeks ago - was WAY excitied - until i got there! My Sister hadn't seen my dress and just shrugged when i asked if she liked it, and then to top things off its too big for me (the woman in the shop ordered me a size 20 - im usually a 12-14), feel like i still can't really see how it looks so was a little disappointed. Fingers crossed the seamstress is good!

Well what you think ...

Remember that your wedding dress size bears no resemblance to your "normal" clothes size so just because the label says "20" doesn't mean it's the equivalent of a size 20. I bought my jacket and its four sizes larger than the shirt that's underneath it (which is my normal size). Go figure.

Dress looks nice to me anyway, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Thanks aj - i have got over the whole size thing, its just a little annoying that its clearly too big for me and ill need to wait a while to see it sit properly. Its mad how all the sizes are different! x

It's the same for us guys too - I can buy a pair of trousers one size that is loose, then the next size up in a different brand and I can't even do the button up because it's a different cut.

I'm not sure why such a big size was ordered though - perhaps you have a bigger butt or bust than the 'right' size is meant to fit so they'll just take in the 'wrong' bit to make it all fit?

The important thing, as I understand it, is that you like the style - which you obviously do. But the adjustments to make a standard size fit a non-standard person (which we all are) will bring all the bits in where necessary and make your curves stand out where they should.

It looks like it fits in the pictures , did they have to stuff the back?

Am guessing they had to order a bigger size due to the cut of the top across the waist so i wouldnt worry.

Wedding dress sizes are on more "traditional" sizes, so dont worry about it!

I like the dress, really beautiful xx

I know! You would think that they would make the wedding dress sizes so that you order a smaller size if anything - that way you feel great on your big day!

Wedding dress sizing is v odd. i definately wouldnt worry as long as it fits on the day! My bust, waist and hips all required a different dress size from each other on the chart. I dont think im that odd shaped! and i always buy the same size clothes for my bottom and top half in regular shops. Wedding dress makers and shops should be more considerate! They should be making people feel good about themselves!

Aww you still look beautiful..love the dress

if it makes you all feel better i spend my life referring to sizes charts because one brand says this, another one says something else, and my head just spins..

i always go the size that the largest, so in my case, my hips, so i know i am easy a 24/26 and yet on the high street i can buy an 18 or 20..

I found the dress sizes to be quite odd too. 2 of my bridesmaids were a bit shocked when they were both told they would need size 18 dresses (neither one of them is anywhere near that size both are a 12 - maybe a 14 on one of their bad days (their words, not mine)) My dress and my other 2 bridesmaid dresses are 8's but we're all size 6's in real life.... I find it odd that the bigger the 'real' size, the bigger the leap in dress size is.

Your dress is beautiful though! I love the detailing on it! And like i say - No one knows the size but you! All people see is how stunning you look!

    xx

Maybe wedding dresses go on actual sizes and not our new shop sizes? (See post in OT on vanity sizing). That would actually make sense. I also think that the size needed depends on the cut or shape of the dress. My dress is a size 10, although some size 12 dresses were a bit tight if they were more fitted on the hips.

The other thing is, and no offence to anyone when I say this because I don't mean it like that, but some girls might think they're a particular size and squidge themselves into, say, a size 12, when a 14 would fit and look better. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but I'm a 10-12 at the moment and I refuse to wear a few of my clothes at the mo as they're slightly too tight and I podge in the wrong places...
