Anyone from Edinburgh or been there...in here please!! Not O/T xx

Hi there!!

Can anyone from Edinburgh or those that have been please advise me on some central hotels or even B&B's that would be suitable to house a group of hen's from London?

I have seen a couple of Holiday Inns which say they are central however not being familiar with whats in the vacinity, I have no idea how central they are to pubs/clubs attractions shopping etc!

Also any bars or suitable restaurants would be greatly appreciated, as I haven't even been there myself either!!

Thanks

xxxxxxx

There are a few Holiday Inns and travel Lodges fairly central and a walk or quick taxi ride will get you to most places. Edinburghs currently being dug up at the minute, replacing roads with the central tram system so its a bit of a bugger to get about. I dont live there so cant name ya streets but pull up a multimap and find out where you want to go and where u want to be. Oh and princes st is all shops on one side and a park on the other so dont count on being near there for a good time, lolol.

If in doubt fone the tourist information office in edinburgh and they will be more than happy to help you.

Hi Gem, I work in Edinburgh so know it quite well.

There are lots of bars and restaurants on George Street (which is the street behind Princes Street) although some of the bars can be quite expensive. There are some good bars at the grassmarket and the cowgate too.

If you were staying anywhere near the above you would be quite central.

What sort of thing are you looking for? If you let me know what accomodation you are looking at I can let you know if its in a good location x

The reason I was asking if you were dressing up was there may be a couple of bars on George Street that might not be keen on a group of hens, but there are loads of bars and 90% of them will be fine.

I've been on a couple of hens to Edin that we dressed up and we went down to the grassmarket, it was a good laugh. Frankensteins and the Three Sisters are good pubs and always seem to have stags and hens in. Im sure there is a newish premiere inn near the grassmarket too.

Its slightly further away (not much though) but we stayed at the Fountain Court Apartments a few years ago when we were in Edinburgh for a birthday weekend and they were really nice. There were a few of us so it was nice to have a 'livingroom' that we could all sit in to have a drink before we went out. We booked it through octopus travel and I remember it was quite a good price. You can book direct as well which might be cheaper.

Let me know if you need any more help x

    Hi Gem

i went there a couple of years ago for a dirty romantic break with hubbie. We LOVED it! Well we actually stayed in a serviced apartment which slept up to 6 people for £40 a night! It was however a bit of a way out but they did run a free shuttle bus service into town which dropped off and collected. However, if there were quite a few of you to share taxi costs it wouldn't be that bad. The apartments are brand new (well a couple of years now!) modern swanky pads.Usually with a double, a twin and a sofa bed. But you could have as many apartments as you liked I suppose. It really depends on how central you want to be. One tip though. When you get to Edinburgh, if you fly in, get a bus from the airport to the centre. We didn't know about it so paid £22 for a taxi! I always use www.laterooms.com to find the best prices for accommodation.

My absolute fav place was Tiger Lily's. They have a very funky bar, hotel restaurant and club and I think it's on George Street. They do organise Hen packages too /offers/girls-weekend/ but it is a bit pricey. You have to go there!

Other than that there is so much to see and do incuding the underground city which we didn't manage to get to but am desperate to go back to see.

    You'll have a fantastic time.

    Ruth

Hey, I went to a hen do in Edingburgh and we stayed in the Fountain Court apartments. They were within walking distance of the bars and were a great alternative to hotels. We stayed for 2 nights and one night just stayed in the apartments and had dinner there (they were self catering) which also saved us a bit of money.
