Anyone going double-barrelled?

Just a nosy post really, I have a very boring, common surname. OH has a very unusual surname and I don't like it very much ? Just a nosy post really, I have a very boring, common surname. OH has a very unusual surname and I don't like it very much ? I've never really questioned the fact I would take his surname (even though it will now mean I have to spell out my WHOLE name - already have to spell out first and middle name, and my whole address ? ) but over Christmas, a friend sent us a card and addressed it to Mr A and Miss B Sillyname-Commonname and ever since, this double barrelled version has stuck in my head.

If we double-barrelled, the surname would be 3 syllables so not a total mouthful. I think it works well together and rolls off the tongue, but I have always laughed at people who've gone DB through marriage and said they're very pretentious ?

So, thoughts?

Me too. This is what we're doing. He will remain Mr S, I will be Mrs V-S.

I think this too. Our two children have DB surnames as we obviously had them before marriage. IF I decide to DB my name OH will still keep his so the children and I will all have a DB surname but OH will stay the same. OR I'll keep my surname, OH keeps his and the kids have DB. I can't decide what to do, OH doesn't care either way, it's my name!

My OH is currently immovable on this and doesn't want to DB at all, but he is happy for me to. I actually don't want to unless he also does though - I see our marriage as us joining our lives together to create an even better one, and so would want us both to blend our surnames. I'd also want our children and BOTH of us to share the same surname.

If OH really puts his foot down, I'll take his name. I can't see him moving on this, which is a shame as I'd rather be Mrs S-J than Mrs S!

If my husband had put his foot down about that, he'd have been looking for a new girl to marry!

Really?!! It's only a name...! I don't really think him NOT wanting to change his is a divorcable (or un-marriable!) offence, not if he *would* be ok with me changing mine. It is my preference for all of us to have the same name, he wouldn't try to stop me choosing to go DB myself.

Overall though, he doesn't put his foot down often and I've had free rein over everything else wedding related so maybe I'll let him have this one ?
