Anyone got an iPhone?

Polo, 11 July, 2009 at 20:49 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 30

Just wondering if it lives up to the hype and if you'd recommend it? I only really use my phone for the basics at the moment but can see a time in the near future where internet access, etc. will be very useful for me during the day.

TIA.

I've had my iphone for about 10 months now and I love it. I like being able to access the internet and my emails whenever I want and use it for internet access as much I use it to text/call. It is better now they have upgraded them to send mms but the camera only takes good pictures in good light. This doesn't bother me because I use my digital camera instead. I'd definitely recommend them!

I've had mine for a few weeks and absolutely love it. It completely changes the way I go about life - proper internet access on the move is brilliant.

I got my first iPhone in Spring last year, and the new model at Christmas. Wouldn't swap it for any other phone - the capabilities are amazing (the camera isn't fantastic, but what you can do with the pictures, is - email with the touch of a button, post to FB, Twitter etc.), the range of applications is extensive, and rising each day.

There are more capabilities with the iPhone then I can list.

Also, the pet hates I had at the beginning have all been resolved - i.e., cut and paste, search facility, ability to increase the keyboard size (by turning the phone) .. and more.

One thing it still doesn't do which bugs me, is allow me to put more than 2 days as an alert on calendar items. I need at least 20 days to remember an overseas birthday. That's pants, but if I remember, I can change that on the Mac or my laptop (the calendars automatically synch wirelessly - another great feature)

Buy one. You know you want to ?

Just picked up my 3G S - stood in line for nearly 3 hours and it's charging now - very exciting! It was launched on Friday here and queues have been up to 6 hours all weekend.

I've only had mine a few days and I love it. I only used to use my phone for the basics, but now I use it for loads more.

It definitely lives up to the hype in my opinion.

I have the last model - not the new 3GS. It's fab! I love it! Yes the camera isn't brilliant, but it's fine for quick shots. The one downside for me, is that I use it so much, that I'm constantly running out of battery. But basically, as long as you keep it charged through the computer, and I have a charger at work, then it's fine.

It does live up to the hype. In fact it's better!

What everyone else said. Also I can be using it and think oh I wish it had a function to do something or other and then you go to app store and you can usually find something an app there. With all the different apps you can really customise your phone into something to really suit you and it's really easy to add/take away different apps.

I agree with the battery life but I have mine on charge via pc all day then I have another charger in the car.

Its like having a phone / internet access / satnav / music player / games machine in your pocket. Of course it has its downsides (battery life) but I don't think I'd go back to a "normal" phone now.

I have one and I hate it. It's slow, difficult to use, internet is rubbish and it's far too expensive in the first place.

    Not really. I love it.

I only use my phone for texting people really, and the odd phone call, so I'm not sure I'd use it much. Although as that's all my phone does, I don't have much choice on doing other things! Even the older models on e Bay are still really pricey. I want the shiny new 3 GS one though ?

After realising how much I was paying trying to surf on my little nokia, I've just gone for an iPhone 3G on a £34/month tariff, and it arrived yesterday - am soooo excited to start using it, especially having read this thread! Phone was free on that tariff, and I'm told that with the 3.0 software upgrade it's not much different to the 3GS.

The main thing I'm looking forward to is being able to put the laptop down in the evenings/let H have a go, as all I really do is hitch and I can do that on my way home from work then devote my evenings to actually talking to my husband ?

SFM, i also have an Iphone, but it's unlocked on Vodafone so can only use internet on wireless networks. Within that £34/month tariff, is that purely line rental or do you have any other contractual perks like free texts or minutes? My phone is currently costing me about £40 a month as I've needed to increase my call usage to family, so I'm starting to look around for new contracts. I love my Iphone and don't want to go back, so if I could get a good deal on a new one I'd be really happy!

I think it's 600 mins, 500 texts and unlimited wi-fi/data. Plus the phone is free. That was on an upgrade, so you could probably get a better deal for switching!

Thank you all, they are much better deals than I'm on at the moment. I'll definitely do a bit more research. I think I get 500 texts and 150 mins for £25 a month but I'm going over my call limit every month due to needing to speak to family in my lunch hour at work and at times when I don't have access to my landline. Having access to the internet at all times would be wonderful. ?

You don't need an iphone to have internet access. I use the internet on my se k850 all the time. One of the main reasons i don't want an iphone is becuase it's on O2 and the reception for O2 is shocking where I live. I was waiting for the Palm pre to come out but of course they have gone excusively with O2 too.

H has the Samsung for internet access and my brother has a Blackberry but I dislike them both immensely, I like my Iphone because I find using the internet so much easier.

Of course - there are loads of phones where you can have internet access. I've just found the interface on the iPhone to be second to none. I have a Blackberry for work and I used to have an N95 and it was painful in the extreme on both.

Blimey! Only just logged back on to see if I had any replies. Thanks everyone.

I'll read through now but, from first glance, it seems like I should purchase said phone. H will be mad as he's an IT geek and desperately wants one too and he can't until Sept....Ha!!

    Thanks again! ?

I used to use the internet on other phones (mainly nokia) and there really is no comparison. The iphone is really user friendly especially now with cut & paste and mms.

What Hazel said. I have a Blackberry Curve as well as the iphone and it's awful to use the internet on. The iphone seems like a proper browser.

I have the old model and its fab, like others have said, the camera is rubbish but then again I've never really used the cameras on my phone. The instant internet is fab and I love all the apps you can get. Love the QWERTY keyboard which took some getting used to.

I have a blackberry for work and an iphone for personal - had the iphone for 18 months now and its just so much easier to use than the blackberry and so much more functional, so much so I've just upgraded to the new one which is even better rather than going with something else (and incredibly sold on my old one for almost all the upgrade cost !)

I love the email, internet and camera plus for most things I use (Facebook, twitter) they have great apps which make it incredibly easy to stay in touch - with the 3G coverage its brilliant

Thanks again everyone. Think I've pretty much decided that I'm going to get one in the next week or two. It'll just be a case of getting my head around all the technology and the apps then.
