anyone got pregnant while planning the wedding?

kjs5846, 29 October, 2010 at 11:41 Posted on Planning 0 18

Hi everyone,

very random post I'm thinking, but not sure where else to go! Me and Finace have been through a lot the past couple months and have bought the wedding forward. We've set the date for 30th April 2011 and have a venue. At the mo looking at dresses and all dress shops are freaking out that I've left it too late! Anyway we are actively trying for a baby too. So I'm now thinking what happens if I get pregnant?! Obviously we'll still get married, but my main concern is the dress.

I am looking at potential dresses that might still get a bump in, but I don't want to get something that I can't wear if I get pregnant. Are dress shops able to alter a dress for these eventualities? And has anyone had any experience with this happening? xx

    Hi & welcome to hitched!

I got pregnant just before the wedding but luckily i was only 11 weeks ish when we got married.
I would suggest choosing a lace up dress though then you have a bit of movement of an extra size.

Not much else i can suggest :-/

good luck with the wedding planning and the ttc x

My sister was 3 months pregnant when she got married, her dress was very detailed and fishtail and they were only able to take the dress our the tiniest bit! There are some lovely maternity dresses from a designer I can't remember the name of. They sell them at Cloud Nine Bridal in Cheam, Surrey (people flock from near and far as they have such a good range) and I think the turn around times are really quick, just a couple of weeks I think! They are like grecian style so I think they look great if you are covering a little bump but I also think they look amazing if you are not pregnant. Give them a call, they will be able to tell you the name of the designer.

Personally I think pregnancy and wedding planning don't go together. Both are hard enough on their own, let alone trying to cope with both. I'd leave the babies till after the wedding.

H and I started trying for a baby in the November before our wedding in April this year. I was about 10 weeks pregnant and had to get another wedding dress a week and a bit before the wedding, this was due to bump appearing very early and being all up front iyswim. Definitely have a look at maternity dresses as well as empire line dresses which has the skirt starting as near to or under the bust as possible.

HTH and good luck whatever you decide.

Thank you all for your replies. I think its a very personal decision by the sounds of it. Me and DF have been through a lot the past few months and realisead that life it too short and for persoanl reasons are desperate to have a baby.

At the end of the day I think there's no right or wrong decision. But I'm glad to say that the dress I've fallen in love with is empire line and lace and flowy. I’m hoping that this will allow for a bump (even though I’m not pregnant yet!) I have secretly in the back of my mind been thinking about how a dress would look if I did have a bump while trying them on. I was thinking of maybe having a quiet word with the shop to see what they recommend.

Max will have a look at ur pics. Mrs Keating2be, are you excited? Due to recent events in our life I have become very laid back and am not very well prepared for the wedding, we have only just got a venue and I still haven’t ordered a dress! Oh well as long as I sign the paper and have a party I’ll be happy xxx

    Have to agree with this.

My friend accidentally fell pregnant just after she got engaged. Her mother said she celebrated too much! ? Luckily, the wedding was about 6 months after the baby was born, so she didn't have too many dress issues, but had to choose it quickly and diet to get back into it. However, she ended up leaving most of the wedding planning to her mother in the end as she had so much going on with the baby, so didn't really get 'her' day. If it was me, I would leave trying for a baby until the honeymoon ?

I haven't got anything useful to add, sorry. Good luck in what you decide to do.

It would be a Bad Thing for us timing wise and I know I'd be disappointed not to be able to drink the champagne I've worked hard to buy!

I felt bldy awful for the first 4 months of my pregnancy. I couldn't have done the last couple of months of wedding planning feeling like that.

Thank you all for your replies. Maybe because my last pregnancy I didn't suffer with bad morning sickness and found it bearable that I'm thinking it won't be that bad. Well I guess only time will tell. We've decided to just go with it and see what happens. Very hard to know whats right, but I want it all!! Lol xxx

Hi, im currently 4 months pregnant, due 24 april 2011 and wedding on 24 sept 2011. we got enagaged and then 4 weeks to the day of our engagement we found out i was pregnant. everyone assumes it is a shot-gun wedding but we genuinely didnt know ( i had only been off my pill ONE month (!!!). plus we had already seen a venue and decided a date so we just went for it! although, slightly different from the original post as in i will have had my baby albeit it will be very young, im not having a prob with wedding planning - if anything its keeping me calm about the baby and stopping me obsessing . however the major drawback is money . i didnt really appreciate that i would be off on maternity and getting a paltry maternity pay whilst trying buy baby things, pay for wedding and my mortage. so i have had to cut back on the wedding but its things like got one car to do 2 runs, getting a tog package with a disc of images to print off later that sort of thing. that all said i am really happy with all that . its really true how your priorities change and suddenly the favours dont seem that important anymore. so, my opinion is go with whatver happens. things happen for a reason Smiley smile

I was about 19 weeks I think when I got married, I was lucky in that I didnt really get morning sickness and my little man didnt even really start to show until I was 7 months gone, i ended up in the fairy tale dress id always wanted and the shop I bought it from where fantastic with regular fittings and adustments right up until a couple of days before the big day just to make sure it fitted ok on the day, in fact in most of the pictures I've got I dont even look pregnant at all, if its what you guys want go for it, I'd imagine its harder to try and organise everything after having the baby as its not just you two to think about then iykwim at least when bubs is in your tummy they are easily transportable and dont cry at dress fittings lol Smiley smile

We're trying for a baby. The dress i've chosen has a concealed zip fastening, but the lady in the shop is fabulous and if i fall pregnant before the wedding she says she will alter the back of the dress, remove the zip and add in a corset back, allowing that bit extra give.

    *new to forum*

when i got pregnant we had our wedding booked - and paid for - to Mauritius. i didnt know i was pregnant, id bought the dress (luckily i was going for a grecian theme!!) and with 4 months to go til the september wedding i found out i was pregnant and due in december. which meant id be 7 months pregnant when we travel to mauritius! soooooo we had to cancel Mauritius (because i couldnt fly) and i had litterally a couple of months to plan a WHOLE NEW WEDDING!! as i still wanted to be married before bubba was born!

i did it. we got married september 11th at hardwick hall nr chesterfield. had a lovely reception in a country village hall with hops, fairy lights, pic-nic plankets, skittles and a good hog roast!

although we never did get to mauritius, it was a blessing in disguise! we had the most perfect day! and simon still managed to carry me over the threshold with my huge bump!!

we've been married a year and 2 months and have a gorgeous baby boy called Leon who will be 1 next month!!

what a whirlwind couple of years!!!!

now my brother is getting married and im a bridesmaid and Leon is a page boy!

hope you liked my little story!

    check out my website xxx
