Anyone had success with Alan Carrs Easyway to stop Smoking?

Donna N, 28 August, 2008 at 14:19 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 18

My sisters reading it this week and my husbands the next on the list to read it so... Just wondered how anyone else found it?

I read it years ago and must say it did nothing for me. I found it to be too preachy and just dull dull dullity dull but I havent told them that. However, I am still finding it difficult to get through the day not smoking, even though I havent had a cigarette for 8 months now so his words do appeal to me in that you will never want a cigarette again so I might have a go and read it again.

I read it up until the point where he started banging on about god, then I left it. It did help me stop though; I stopped for 5 years. Then started again. And am now on week 4 of having stopped again. Cold turkey both times.

It'll be 4 years his November since I stopped my 30 a day habit, after reading the book. No cravings, never wanted another cigarette.

First time I read it, yes. Stopped for about 3 years. Second time I tried using it, no.

Similar thing happened to a friend though. She used the book and gave up for about 2 years and then started again.

I've got the DVD at home waiting to be watched but I've never got round to it!

I thought it was fantastic. It really made sense to me, I read it in about an hour and gave up straight away really easily.

HOWEVER after about 3 years fag free I did start having the odd one again when I was out on the booze (still do now) so perhaps I need to read it again!

2 of my friends gave up probably around 15 years ago with it and then lent the book to my dad who gave up using it in 1998. He was 50 and had been smoking 20 - 30 a day since his teens. I was/am very proud of him as I NEVER thought he'd manage to quit.

Read it, found it stressful, didn't give up.

Then I watched a Paul McKenna dvd - also didn't stop.

A week after watching the dvd I gave up with patches and an inhalator. The patches were useless and would fall off during the day, stopped using them within a few days. The inhalator I used a lot, for 2-3 weeks.

Gave up over a year ago. Could still murder a fag and I think if it wasn't for the fact it was due to health reasons I gave up, I would still be a smoker

I'm like Mrs Winkle- I read it 5 years ago and went from being a 30 a day girl to giving up- no cravings, no stress.

It says not to stop smoking until you have finished the book. 2 years on from getting it, I still haven't finished the book ?

    Hi,

i bought the book and half heartedly read bits of it for a few months then let it gather dust. about 6 months after that, we were moving house and jobs and i didn't want to start this "new life" being a smoker. at that point, i was smoking about 20 a day and read the book over 2 or 3 days.

i honestly have never wanted another cigarette since, and that was almost 4 years ago now. i don't remember any preachy bits, but i forced myself not to skip through any pages as i'd done that before and it hadn't worked ?. as far as i understood it, you had to read it all, every page, or nothing.

    can't recommend it highly enough.

He questions why you smoke and makes you think about smoking rationally and with an open mind rather than as a habit. I didnt quite "get it" but know lots who have and quit successfully. I think it has to click in some way and then all becomes clear.

Both my husband and I gave up after reading it, but we both had to read it two or three times before we what he was saying really clicked with us. It's been two years since we stopped smoking and I can honestly say my life is so much a better without the dreaded ciggies.

I've just finished reading it for the second time. I really really do want to give up, for health reasons. I'm 31 and it killed my dad at 60.

Not yet. I don't mind not smoking at all until I have a drink. Then I want to chain-smoke, and usually do. Cutting down on the drink has helped, but I'm going to have to quit it altogether I think!
