Anyone had their mail redirected before?

SAM83, 18 June, 2009 at 13:06 Posted on Off Topic Posts 0 6

Can I ask did you have a lot of mail going missing or any problems?

We are moving to my MIL's at the end of next week for a few months until our new house is ready. We are going to redirect our mail but am not sure whether to get in touch with everyone (banks/DVLA etc) to let them know the change of address or just rely on the redirection and then change them one time when we move to our new house.

We've always used the Royal Mail redirection service whenever we've moved house and we've never had any problems.

You should inform everyone that you have moved and the redirection should just pick up any letters that go to the old address

Once you have moved you shouldn't continue to use the old address for anything

What everyone else says. We had the odd letter miss the redirection but I'd left some redirection labels with the next occupants who very kindly forwarded the letters.

We used the Royal Mail thing, did it for 6mths as it wasn't that much more and it was worth doing (people that bought our house were right chavs and no way they'd have forwarded anything). I let all the main people know as soon as we moved (or before in some cases) so the redirection was for the ones I'd forgotten/missed and things like christmas cards that got missed as I put new address cards in with OUR christmas cards to those who didn't already know, but of course some of them beat me to it when sending the damn things out so mine arrived too late!

Thanks everyone will get cracking notifying people of the new address then.

    Glad to hear redirection worked!

I used to use it but then they didn't bother redirecting any of it one time, and sent it all to my ex boyfriend who had (bizarrely) moved into the house I used to live in. Actually, they did redirect one piece, from my bank, to my old next door neighbours who had emigrated to New Zealand. They wrote me a nice note and posted it back to my ex boyfriend's address ?

I then couldn't cancel the redirection to get a refund as it was 'already in place'. It was an absolute nightmare for ages with chasing RM who don't answer the phone, useless staff, collecting post off the ex, ringing credit card companies etc. Never again.
